Doug Walters 100 in a session and hooking Willis for 6 on the last ball of the day.
Great theatre and classic Dougie.

As he called the fight over at the end of the fourteenth round Joe's trainer Eddie Futch said ..."It's over son, but no-one will forget what you did here today".
He was wrong. While Ali was revered for the rest of his days, Frazier died a forgotten man. Ali would come to regret his appalling behaviour towards his greatest opponent as maturity finally kicked in. Frazier, who as heavyweight champion had supported Ali when he was exiled from the sport, never forgave him.

In the streets of Cubao, Quezon City, where this fight was held, everything is named after Ali. You ask people about Joe Frazier, they haven't even heard of him. It is very sad.

Wayne Gardner winning the 1989 Australian 500cc GP at Phillip Island
2nd placed Wayne Rainey's comments on this race make interesting reading.

Rainey: “Gardner ran into the back of me twice, and didn’t even notice. He was one of the sloppiest guys I ever raced – he reminded me of a bulldog on a bike. When he was on a good day, he could ride that thing right out of the saddle. He was a bit like Kevin (Schwantz), but more out of control. Not a thinking racer: he rode by the excitement of the crowd."

Sour grapes maybe, but Rainey would go on to win the title three years running, while Gardner's one championship was already behind him. Gardner's success in the championship was hampered by crashes from this point on.

Leaving aside the plethora of broncos premierships, the best I witnessed was Steve Waugh’s hundred at the scg against England in 2003. I didn’t even see it at the time but was listening to Grandstand and Agnew’s call was great

Honourable mention to Cathy freeman winning the 400 at the 2000 olympics dressed as a dildo.

That Waugh century was something else. Was there, did cry.

Reinhold Messner and Arved Fuchs traversing Antarctica on foot in 1989.

Colin O'Brady just completed the first solo crossing. Unaided on foot as well.

Unbelievable.

But is that sport? I'm not denigrating those achievements by any stretch either.

It is an interesting discussion. Why would we doubt these as sporting achievements?

It depends what your definition of sport is. I don’t regard things like darts or snooker as sports but as games. Sport for me has to have some athletic prowess with regular competition . Again though I’m not putting down the athletic feats of the people you have chosen but I personally don’t think of those kind of achievements as sport. It’s not like there are organised competitions to see who can reach the South Pole in the quickest time on an annual basis. These kind of feats are one offs. You can only be the first person to do something once. Once that has been done people find another unachieved goal to attempt.

How about mountaineers? I'd consider this sport as well.
