What if Jarryd Hayne doesn't make the 49ers cut? Will he return to the NRL?

Hayne not returning to the NRL anytime soon

Jarryd Hayne rejects rumours of an NRL return, saying reports of him leaving NFL are 'foolish'

Jarryd Hayne has shot down reports of a possible return to the NRL, says those rumours are "stupid" and "foolish".

NFL playing time has been scarce for Hayne since he was waived and eventually placed on the 49ers' practice squad, but the San Francisco running back laughed off the rumoured return to Australia

"If I was going to go back [to Australia], I wouldn't have even come [to America]," the two-time Dally M Medal winner said.

"Media back home is obviously just trying to make stories and use my name to make headlines.

"It's just foolish and only fools would believe that."

Hayne said it does not take a rocket scientist to know any NRL team would welcome him with wide-open arms, but his focus is going forward, not looking back.

"If I can come this far in five or six months, imagine how much further I can go in 12 months," he said.

"That's definitely my mindset."

The 27-year-old has not gotten on the field for the 49ers since he made a costly fumble in the team's round-six clash with Baltimore in mid-October and it does not look like he will be getting any playing time this week either.

Coach Jim Tomsula said the former Eels, Blues and Kangaroos star would not play against rivals Seattle on Monday (AEDT) despite star running back Carlos Hyde being ruled out yet again due to a foot injury.

Shaun Draughn, a former running back for the Cleveland Browns and signed by the 49ers after Hayne was cut, will likely start against the Seahawks.

With the understanding that Jarryd has made it clear he won't return to League, and the longer he stays away the harder it will be to regain the 80 minute drive he never had enough of in the first place, which is probably the reason he was attracted to NFL . . . what's the big deal

Jarryd will get another shot in the preseason, make a huge impact with two touchdowns in 4 weeks from punt returns, and then be nailed on the SF 49ers 46 man active roster for all of 2016.

Its hard to see him getting another game at the 49rs this year. The coach has clearly decided he can't be relied on. The only reason he is still there is because no other club was interested. I'm really not sure what path forward Hayne thinks he has in NFL.

jarryd is a victim of a rookie coach under pressure for results, and afraid of letting the hype from the aus media influence the perception of him being in charge of his results.

the aus media is also very much to blame. jarryd on any other team would not have been dropped.

The San Francisco 49ers will lose most of their remaining games of 2015 without Jarryd Hayne being on the active roster. As a result the current coach Jim Tomsula will be sacked. That will encourage the new coach in 2016 to promote Jarryd to play again in the preseason, and if he is successful (which I predict he will be) to a place on the active roster for 2016. Then in the 2016 regular NFL season Jarryd Hayne will carve up the NFL as a punt returner, in a way that has not been seen since Devin Hester did it for the Chicago Bears. He will become a toast of the NFL.

Ah what? Why would an NFL coach care what the Aus media thinks?

That was the case before he got shafted to the practice squad.

Thought the practice squad players were still on around 500k? Not sure, but there's plenty of NFL fans in here that's know. If it is around that 500k mark, add to that his sponsorships n such and he'd be on close to parity of what he'd be getting in the NRL

Hayne is the most naturally gifted player I have seen. However one of the laziest. NFL suits him to a T.

He only gets $6,600 per week on the practice squad which is only payable for the length of the season. ( 16 weeks)

Even his contract for the 53 man squad would have been shit all compared to what the Eels were paying him. But I think once you factor in the other money he is earning over there he wouldn't be losing much/any from what he would be earning in the NRL.

Unless his endorsements were conditional on him being in the 53man squad.
