What if.......

1. Cameron Smith.

i view the dummy-half as one of the most important positions in the game. the player that gets his hands on the ball the most, and is more or less toward the middle of the defensive line so gets through a lot of work. a very important position, and for this reason i give great consideration of taking the best at the position as my #1 pick. with the bonus of being able to kick in general play, and kick for goal, there's no other choice of the current crop of players, IMO. Smith is MVP of the comp.

and on that reasoning above, what do people reckon about the value of certain positions? That is, what positions do people seriously consider as the most important when building the team and using a top 5 pick? and positions which can be considered with lower picks? or would people adopt a 'best player available' strategy?

1. Inglis
2. Smith
3. Hayne

I take Inglis as its only his own team that can shut him down. Give him the ball and he'll dominate regardless of if his team is on the backfoot.

Importance to a team is differnt to best player e.g Cooper Cronk is more important to how the Storm function then GI, but he isnt in the same league as a player.

When deciding BP, take the guy whos best game is better then anybody else's and he displays it consistently enough

Just realised I forgot about this forum for the entire 2010 season!

I wonder if there is still any interest in this Franchise Draft idea?

Or at the very least, any major changes in the players who might be selected in the first few picks in this hypothetical scenario, since it was first posted?

1 - JT
2 - Slater
3 - Cronk
4 - Dugan
5 - Carney

Can't underestimate the importance of 1, 6 and 7.

Those guys followed by SKD, Uate, Burgess, Taylor, Pearce, Smith, Farah, Coote, Scott, Douglas, Snowden, Hannant, Luke not in any order.

Since you have 3 halves and 2 fullbacks, I assume you mean the first 5 picked overall.

Unless you wanted to have all those guys in 1 team, which would be interesting.

^Yeah I dunno if people think all would be available or...?
This isn't for my team, this is what I think would be drafted over.

1st pick - Jonathan Thurston.
2nd - Jarryd Hayne
3rd - Cam Smith
4th - Benji Marshall
5th - Billy Slater.

To be honest JT, Hayne and Slater all have 1st overall potential, but JT is like a quarterback....you build your team around him....he has leadership, he has talent and he's a game changer....I very much doubt anyone else would be 1st overall.
Greg Inglis is omitted, I'm sure he'd be here....but after his off season I think his stock would have dropped.

Darren Lockyer, wouldn't draft well at all...he's old, he's picking up injuries and his form has been average.

1. Cam Smith.

He's a true leader, amazing player, great kicker and can control any game he plays in. Hes the Brady of league in my opinion
