Considering he actually lived in Cambodia during that whole massacre he probably had a lot of experience to draw on.
Acting isn't all that easy...otherwise why are there so many bad actors?

So that suddenly makes him an Oscar-worthy actor??
There aren't so many bad actors. There's poor casting, poor role choosing, there's personal opinion and that's about it. An actor is fine if in the right role. Can't expect anyone to be Daniel Day-Lewis but what other profession has people with no experience, children and mentally handicapped people ranked so highly? When 8 year olds can win Oscars it isn't exactly rocket surgery.

Finally got to see 12 Years a Slave. I think it does deserve to be called the best film of the year, just edging out Gravity.

12 yrs a slave.

epic movie.

Fassbender vs Pitt scene was the highlight.

You have got to be kidding with that. So many harrowing, emotional and disturbing scenes and you pick a conversation between two men just because they are two famous names?

The Killing Fields

9/10 A fantastic portrayal of the Khmer Rouge and Cambodian Genocide.
Haing S Ngor won an Oscar for his performance despite never having acted before. Must be real difficult that acting trade to be able to do that.
Decided to download and watch it, was a good movie..thanks for the recommendation (or at least the praise which made me check it out)
8/10

12 Years a Slave - Thought it was pretty good. Although I was expecting something a bit more hard-hitting and it didn't really give the feeling that 12 years had passed IMO.

i thought it was more than just a "conversation". I thought it was symbolic of what was then, vs what is now.

Pitt was the only guy who stood up to Fassenbender. that was pretty cool too.

The Wind Rises.

Nice film but not what I expected. Found it strange they did not focus on how effective the Zero Fighter was. Not a mention at all of how good Horikoshis design was.

Life of Pi- Meh, I was expecting the story line to be deeper, it didn't really draw me in like I thought it would. It is a very visually stimulating movie though, beautifully shot and amazing special effects only saw it in Blue-ray not 3D so can only imagine how amazing it would have been. Also the young Indian actor who plays Pi is a talent, seemed to get better as the movie went on... 5.5/10

Prisoners- Who doesn't love a good Thriller? Keeps you guessing throughout, genuine spine chilling moments and good solid acting by the main characters... If you like these kind of movies then this is a must watch 8/10

Watched Alien 3 on fox again last night. Really enjoyed it after not having seen it for a while.
