Watched Kingsman last night, had no idea what it was about (aside from being a quirky spy movie based on a comic) which made the ride all the more fun. The comment above mentioning it being juvenile I totally agree with, but in that made it awesome hah!

Saw preview for Chappie (which I also hadn't heard about previously) which basically looks like Short Circuit Does South Africa, quite keen to check that out as well. Plus it has Die Antwoord (the ayeeayeeay I am your butterfly / when I was a boy I wanted to be a NINJA duo) which should make for some interesting viewing.

Preview for Jupiter Ascending doesn't make me want to watch that at all, I don't mind sci-fi, but this just looks ridiculous!

Look for it to be a bit more adult than that.
Apparently it's been rated R in the US, which probably means healthy doses of course language and violence.

Also, is there anyone who thought Jupiter Ascending looks good?
After the first trailer I thought it looks terrible. The second trailer was slightly better, but still didn't interest me.

I think this was the Wachowski's last chance. They have been given big budget after big budget and failed miserably. Matrix Reloaded was their last huge hit, and that was only off the back of the first one. Reloaded made plenty of money, but was quite a bit down from Reloaded. Not what they wanted.

Then Speed Racer, Cloud Atlas (which did actually look interesting and had some good reviews...but still lost a lot of money) and now Jupiter Ascending, which is turning out to be one of the biggest bombs of all time.

No studio is going to give them money anymore, at least not a big amount. It's kind of a shame because they are t least trying to do something original and interesting. Problem is they are doing it on a huge scale. Chris Nolan is doing it right...they need o take note from him. Go back and do a few small scale movies and see what they can do.

i just thought it could have been so much better if it was darker.

Are you saying Nolan is doing small scale?

No. I just wrote it wrong, haha. I was interrupted about 4 times while writing that post. Got a bit off track.

I was saying Nolan does big budget scale movies that are original and interesting very well.
If the Wachowskis want to get back to doing stuff like that they will need to do some smaller stuff first.

Cloud Atlas is massively underrated, it's a great movie.
I fully expect it to gain cult status and gather momentum over time.

Let's not forget Blade Runner wasn't a hit when it came out.

Neither were Shawshank Redemption, Fight Club, Citizen Kane, It's a Wonderful Life, The Wizard of Oz and Children of Men.

Just saw Birdman, plenty of fun and lots of work would have gone into it with it's very long cuts. 8/10

Saw most of Batman Returns last night on TV, it's been so long since I last watched it, I forgot just how how much of a dirty bird Penguin was haha with all the not-so-subtle double entendres : "I'd like to fill her void", "teach her my French flipper trick", "just the pussy I was looking for" etc (not to mention Schreck's promise of unlimited poontang!)

And I remember loving this as a 10 year old watching at the cinema (much like Waynes World around the same time which I also loved at the cinema, probably didn't get 80% of what was being said).

Still an enjoyable film (especially Pfeiffer, that kiss/lick is still one of the sexiest moments in cinema history), though Batman really doesn't do much at all, much larger focus on the villains than I remember also.

Yeah I remember my repeat viewing many years after watching it as a kid being *wildly* different to what I thought.

While it was occasionally a bit too Tim Burton'd, I still really enjoyed it and I think both the Keaton batman's are a bit underrated. Comic book / superhero movies are allowed to be a bit surreal and 'out there'. And who could hate Christopher Walken playing himself and chewing up scenery like nobodies business!

A good day to Die Hard. Not as bad as it's made out to be. Doesn't really deserve the Die Hard name though (neither does 4.0).

The Three Musketeers (2011). Pretty bad. Nothing new or memorable. Wouldn't reccomend.

I still love Burton's first Batman movie, but Returns doesn't hold up as well over time for me.
For starters, Batman is hardly in it. It focuses way too much on the villains, of which there are two too many. As much as I like Walken, Shreck doesn't need to be there.
It still has some cool visuals and Michelle Pheiffer, so it's not all bad.

Still better than the two that came after.

Ichi the Killer. Japanese Yakuza film out of 2001. Brilliant from the opening scenes to the last. Very dark, over-the-top with its fair share of shock giggles and twists as well. Automatic one of my top 5 of all time. 9/10.

The new hunger games. Obviously it's a stepping stone to the next one cause nothing's happens at all. Jennifer Lawrence is the hottest woman on earth tho.
