Ghostbusters afterlife.

I enjoyed it.

Good as its own simple story, funny moments, good nostalgia, general good time.

I'd say it didn't do nostalgia as well as Spiderman bit it was all entertaining and in the spirit of the first two movies.

McKenna Grace is great, Carrie coon is great (love her from the leftovers) and Paul Rudd is his usual delightful self.

WAY better than the 2016 nonsense.

Ghostbusters Afterlife

The whole family went to see this - three generations, and we all left the cinema with giant smiles on our dials.

The nostalgia was fun, but the new characters and slow build were great. The premise was pretty cool too. A bit of a lump in the throat at the end too… 😔.

I agree with @azzah72 above - McKenna Grace was awesome and carried the film. The newcomer who played Podcast was hilarious and a natural. Everyone else was great, and Paul Rudd being Paul Rudd is always cool.

The links to the past well served but the SFX were awesome. It’s amazing what they can do these days. Lots of laughs and some great chills n thrills.

As a reboot, sequel, finale (it doesn’t look like it did big $$$ in the US)…served its purpose as a summertime, fun popcorn flick.

8 ugly little spuds out of 10.

Just watched afterlife… what a thrill that was.

you just can’t compare this with the 2016 version…

people like to blame sexism for the reason the 2016 one tanked with audiences… and excuse the pun… but it simply just lacked the spirit of the original films.

When the only thing remembered about the 2016 version was Chris Hemsworth silly performance as an idiot… it really wasn’t a high bar to clear.

this story had real heart… built around relationships and family… and then the finale… I seriously wasn’t prepared for an emotional ghostbusters ending like that.

cast wise they were all great… despite being by far and away the biggest current name in the cast I like the fact that Paul Rudd played more of a supporting role and the story was more about the young girl… and boy does she shine.

I’d be happy if they ended it at this… but if they do a sequel I hope they actually give this one time to breath instead of rushing out a halfassed follow up.

Watched the cheesiest Americocenric load of shit in my life last night.

Air Force One with Harrison Ford and that buzzard Glen Close. Typical Yank crud with scenes that defied the laws of common sense.

-2/10

It was followed by Sphere with Sharon Stone and Samuel L. Jackson which started off quite interesting but went pear shaped towards the end

Not sure why "Air Force One" got the credit it did. I thought the movie plain sucked. 2 out of 5 for me.

Im watching "Four Brothers" with Whalberg now. Im giving it one star at the moment....not very good at all. I'll probably give Whalberg one or two more chances before I consign him to the naughty corner with Bruce Willis and Steven Seagal.

Ghostbuster afterlife. Nice follow up to the original one without ever hitting any great heights. That said I can see a sequel in the works.

2 movies yesterday:

I watched a bit of a low key movie last night.

It's called Mass and it's effectively about two parents in grief having a conversation.

It's mostly in a single room and is a very dialogue heavy movie, like a play but I don't know why, it hit me for 6.

Jason Isaacs is freaking amazing in the role and I won't give any more away about the plot but man it's an emotionally charged movie.

Definitely need to be in the right mind set to watch it but I think it is genuinely one of the best dramas of last year.

8/10

The other was the last duel, which I thought was fantastic.

I'm not sure about how or why the discourse came about this movie bit I thought it was an Intriguing insight into how this situation still rears its ugly head in a world when men have all of the power.

I think it's Scott's best movie since the Martian, which I adore.

Note to Kathleen Kennedy, JJ Abrams et al - Ghostbusters Afterlife is how you reboot/revision/re-jig a fan favourite film.

Loved it, the nod to Harold Ramis at the end was just right.

I really enjoyed The Last Duel too. Agree that it's Scott's best movie since The Martian. It seems to be a hit on streaming after a poor box office. I really liked the Rashamon style.

I'm looking forward to Mass, Jason Isaacs is good in just about everything, even when the movie is garbage.

The Power Of The Dog. Very very good film.

Once you get past Benedict Cumberbatch with an American accent it’s brilliant.

Saw a great movie last night on SBS World Movies called The Dark Horse centred around the Maori culture.

The unlikely subject matter was a former chess champion with mental health issues who takes in a bunch of troubled youths and teaching them chess.

One player ends up winning the NZ Junior Championships but the film is riddled with underlying bikie violence who are "parents" of the kids.

8/10.

"No Americans were injured during the making of this film...."

"....but we killed tens of thousands of Germans, Russians, Muslims, et al"

All I can say is f**k Hollywood.

What prompted me to post this was last night's movie Kelly's Heroes.

While it was very low on the bullshit meter, it's got nothing on the Hollywood action sludge of the last 20 odd years.

Should be in the category of fantasy since most of these movies defy the laws of physics and mathematics.

Case in point.

Fantasy vs fact.

Fast and Furious vs Paul Walker.

Fast and Furious - some dude doing 200 kmh rolls his car numerous times, completely totalling it and manages to walk away without a scratch.

Paul Walker - stacks his Porsche Carrera at 130 kmh, killing himself and his mate. Maybe he should have how to drive the thing instead of being in fantasy land.

The funny thing is that Walker's family tried to sue Porsche when it was entirely Walker's fault. Case rightfully dismissed.

Did I watch a different Ghostbusters Afterlife than everybody else in this thread?

The Strangers Things kids type movie at the start was pretty good but it just got way average as it got more Ghostbustery. The two young kids were great though.

I'm in the just wrong camp with the creepy Ramis nod at the end.

Thank fudge Kennedy and Abrams hadn't seen this as I'd rather watch The Force Awakens any day of the week.

Ah well, that's why movies are subjective.

Walker wasn't driving. And Porsche settled wth Walker's daughter and father.
