What Movies Have You Seen III

Saw a great movie last night on SBS World Movies called The Dark Horse centred around the Maori culture.

The unlikely subject matter was a former chess champion with mental health issues who takes in a bunch of troubled youths and teaching them chess.

One player ends up winning the NZ Junior Championships but the film is riddled with underlying bikie violence who are "parents" of the kids.

8/10.
I actually met Genesis Potini before he passed… at my grand mothers tangi(funeral) in gizzy.

real odd looking dude and I never knew much about him until the movie came out which was about 5yrs after he passed away.

Did I watch a different Ghostbusters Afterlife than everybody else in this thread?

The Strangers Things kids type movie at the start was pretty good but it just got way average as it got more Ghostbustery. The two young kids were great though.

I'm in the just wrong camp with the creepy Ramis nod at the end.

Thank fudge Kennedy and Abrams hadn't seen this as I'd rather watch The Force Awakens any day of the week.

Ah well, that's why movies are subjective.

Walker wasn't driving. And Porsche settled wth Walker's daughter and father.

I posted that it was ok. As I said, never really hit any great heights, but it had that feel of the original movie, and as a reboot for the franchise it's a good start. It does have potential, but it would need to be a much better script if they make another movie which looks like it's on the cards. That said it's not aimed at my age group, it's really holiday fare to take the family and everybody walks away mildly satisfied.

Rewatched The Irishman..

For the first time since it first came out a couple of years ago.

Long film.. but the story was still really good… although I think it had an inevitability about the conclusion as the story of the disappearance of Hoffa was so famous you knew where it was heading.

Of course it was Scorsese film so the cast was about as good as it gets from top to bottom… and the performances matched bar one…

But that one… yikes… I love Robert De Niro… to me he is without a shadow of a doubt one of the greatest actors I’ve ever seen. And he still is one of the best IMO..

But he was way too old for the lead role of Frank. The de-aging technology was really amazing and he still has the charisma to make the audience like him… i think most actors of his ilk have that ability to play the most appalling characters but they ooze a certain charm that kinda makes the audience fall for them.

But the problem here was any scene when he did anything physical… it just didn’t look right.

And it really shouldn’t look right.. he’s a 70 something year old playing a hitman in his 30’s and 40’s.

And people point at the scene where he beats the storekeeper up on the street… and that was really bad… but there are other scenes like when he runs across rocks to throw his gun in the ocean.. to me it just removed a sense of menace to his character IMO.

I think if they gave that role to someone like DiCaprio, Gosling, Pitt or Christian Bale or Matt Damon or Ben Affleck or Jeremy Renner or Bradley Cooper who are younger leads who could carry a film like this… or even a guy on the cusp like Oscar Isaac or even lesser known guy like Jon Bernthal.

I think some of those guys are charismatic and charming enough for the audience to fall in love with… but they would bring an edginess to the roll I felt was lacking from De Niro… which I think is a mistake… considering he’s a remorseless hitman who killed dozens of people.

Al Pacino and Joe Pesci were amazing… the de-aging worked perfect for them as they didn’t really have physical roles…

It’s still a good film overall… and if you haven’t seen it I think it’s well worth investing an evening in watching it.

"The Ridiculous 6"....lol. It is quite categorically the worst movie with an all-star cast that I've ever seen. I read reviews about it in the past and I checked out the cast and thought....it surely can't be that bad. I lasted 50-60 minutes before I turned it off. Sandler, Keitel, Nolte, Wilson, Crews, Lauttner, Lowitz, Spade, Schnieder, Trejo......and they turn out the garbage I watched last night. I know movies with star casts don't tend to be all great at times but I expected much better than what this tripe turned out to be.

0 out of 5 stars....worst movie I've watched so far this year.

Life of Pi. Good movie but not one I'd watch again in a hurry, although, with the ending it may be interesting to watch it again with a different perspective after the ship sinks. Would've liked to have seen it in 3D.
I love that movie, what a tale.

Blue Thunder, a classic 80's action effort before Arnie and Sly started slurring their way to noteriety.

Murphy: "Cochrane, F.E."
JAFO: "What's the F.E. stand for?"
Murphy: "f**k everybody."

lol

Don't look up
Great watch, funny and a bit of everything else as well. Also would have no doubt thats how the american population would react to it as well.

Was something very disturbingly satisfying about watching an annoying "influencer" get stabbed to death
