Bullet Train Explosion 2025 (Japan)- Netflix
This is a remake of the 1975 film Bullet Train (the film "Speed" copied but put on a bus and made into a riotous comedy with Keanu). It has been updated for the Social Media age and they messed with the characters and narrative too much. It's ok but I can't see a Western/English speaking audience getting into it - I watched it with my wife who is Japanese but could have happily watched something else/anything else. I watched it mainly because the 1976 original is a cracking film with one of my favourite Japanese actors Takakura Ken ( 47 Ronin / Black Rain / Antarctica / Mr. Baseball, among his 214 movie credits). 5/10

Rebel Ridge 2024, - Netflix
2 hours 11 minutes you'll never get back should you feel the need to watch this most anti-climactic, unsatisfying of films. It's basically a completely sanitized version of First Blood that could have been called Almost No Blood. A revenge film with a zero body count. I have criticized American gun porn in the past but if this film is the alternative, I'll stick with the killing and keep my mouth shut. It's terrible, keep scrolling. 4/10

Thunderbolts - bloody awesome film. Some pretty dark moments in there. Won’t spoil it for anyone but I think right next to Deadpool and Wolverine as the best film in this batch of MCU films… although I’ll admit that isn’t as high of a bar as it used to be…

I saw it on opening night - the hoyts I went to cut the sound at three different points during the movie so I missed about 5 minutes of dialogue 😭

Didn't miss that post credits scene tho...

Keen to see the new Tron, Mission Impossible not so much.

I've got a special place in my heart for Mission Impossible, seeing the first one at the cinema as a teen (and getting the cassingle for my birthday the same year) kind of hooked me in, so looking forward to seeing this last instalment.

Something about action-adventure-espionage on the big screen that really gets me going, even if it has become a bit of "TOM-CRUISE-DOES-HIS-OWN-STUNTS-AND-RUNS-REALLY-FAST! : The Movie" hah!

Final Destination: Bloodlines. Great time killer. Deaths weren’t too outlandish. Too bad no one has beaten the game yet.

Just got out of the last Mission Impossible, enjoyed it enough and glad to see on the big screen though I feel like I enjoyed the previous one a bit more.

And yes it was very much the TOM DO STUNTS RUN FAST show, with some a-bit-too-ridiculous death defying moments along with the OMG SUPER SERIOUS HIGH STAKES GUYS melodrama 😅

Having said that, speaking of my nostalgia buzz for the first film, there was a pleasing callback to the the first film which I hadn't heard about, so that was cool.

Hayley Atwell still babealicious, but Emmanuelle Beart is still the most luscious of all the MI babes 😍

Joker 2

:/ Sweet Jesus Christ what a pile of flaming horseshit…. What in the f**k was Todd Phillips smoking when he came up with that abortion of a film and who did he blackmail to actually get it made.

Undoubtably the most disappointing sequel I’ve ever seen.

Ballerina. Ana De Armas shoots another chick point blank in the muff with a rubber bullet.
There are some lines even John Wick wouldn't cross.

Parasite 2019 (Korea)
Won a couple of Academy Awards, best picture, Director, Screenplay.
Certainly original (as far as I know) and off-beat and decently acted. Like most Asian films it spared us the easy Hollywood ending and even though it became predictable still came to a satisfying conclusion.
I could name 10 Korean films I like better but it's a decent watch. 7/10

The Taste Of Tea 2004 (Japan)
No-one does whacky, completely off the wall movies like the Japanese and this is one of their crazier offerings. Trains coming out peoples heads, a little girl who is watched over by a giant version of herself, a mad grandad, buried Yakuza, dead and alive, a crazy song and dance about a mountain and a lot of just weird shit happening. Asano Tadanobu, one of my favourite Japanese actors gives a great performance. It's long and rambling and doesn't make much sense but worth watching at least once. 7/10
I found it free on Youtube but it looks like it's been taken down already.

Long journey to NYC so caught up on a few.

Last Breath7.5 dramatisation of a real event where a deep sea diver gets trapped. Woody Harrelson as ever is likeable but feel id have enjoyed the doco more.

Presence. 7 different sort of ghost story, and definitely not horror or thriller. Nearly turned it off but glad I stuck with it. Good ending.

Last Showgirl 7. Jamie Lee Curtis has a great body for an old girl. Pam Anderson was good as well but movie only passable.

The Return 6.5 About Odysseus return to Ithaca with Ralph fienes in the lead. Flew under the radar and deservedly so.

Den of Thieves 2. 6 Exactly what I expected. Largely mindless predictable drivel but delivered to its target.

Captain America Brave New World. Made Den of Thieves look like Citizen Kane or Godfather. I'll probably give recent one a go, but could be done with Marvel. They seem to be done with decent stories
