I'm a South Aucklander, or should I say a Mangere East man who went to Kingsford Smith PS, Kedgley Intermediate and Aorere College.

Lived in Mangere, Manurewa and Flat Bush before moving to Melbourne nearly 14 years ago now.

What year at CPS and RI?
I was 97-98 at RI, so that's 91-96 at CPS off the top of my head.

Pretty slim chance we'd fall in the same year but worth a shot.

What was it with those catholic schools? I hear the same stuff from everyone.
My memories (it was a long time ago) are having religion shoved down my throat everyday. Not sure if I was a believer then but now 52 years since I left I'm certainly not. Compulsory to go to mass 5 mornings a week.

Discipline way over the top. Not allowed outside the school gates except when something was organised except for one sunday a month, then you had to wear school blazer or suit and cap!!!

Food that was disgraceful. My parents spent plenty to send me there but the dogs on our farm ate better than us boarders did.

No girls. I was there from age 13 to 16.

The attitude of the people who ran the place and their rules. Walk through those gates and you wound the clock back a long way. Maybe a 100 years.

No entertainment that was aimed at teenage boys. Any entertainment was way out of touch with the times. I'd like to see a rock n roll band but no we'd get a Gilbert and Sullivan opera.

Nothing going on like Space Monkey alludes to, but a french kid from Tahiti got one of the island girls that worked in the kitchen pregnant and he was expelled before anyone had the chance to speak to him.

That'll do, but there is plenty more.

52 years ago???!!

Do you keep in touch as an old-boy of SHC? trust me, the school has changed considerably since you last went there... at the Form 7 school ball - most of the boarders brought girls from Baradene College... always wondered where and how they all managed to score dates to the school ball!!! probably their sisters/cousins...

I thought the brothers were all ok - I remember Brother Dunstan - my rugby coach - a bit of a crazy old nut case but he meant well.

I actually wished I was a boarder not a day boy at SHC... better long term friendships are made.

Anyway, it was a step up from De La Salle!

btw - nothing wrong with bible studies!

Mangere Bridge -> Sydney (I know, not in NZ) -> Howick -> Botany.

Probably heading Manurewa or Manukau Heights soon, since that's all I can probably afford.

Monte Cecilia for some primary, the Mellons Bay, Farm Cover for intermediate and Macleans College for high school, AUT for uni. And now I work for a bank, haha.

Not really a typical league fan background. I should be taking it in the rear while watching rugby union. However in every way, I'm a degenerate so I'm good.
