Nothing good will ever come from it but plenty of suspicion and possible corruption will.

I don't know I'm not an authority in Australian Law on the subject. I doubt it has ever been tested.

Prohibition doesn't stop gambling though. Have a look into the history of SP bookmaking in Australia.

The offshore sportsbooks are also beneath the law. There is little recourse if they were found to be breaching Australian copyright laws.

Excellent point. The way the NRL is allowing gambling to creep insidiously into our game is disgraceful --- even to the extent it's being promoted during the game commentary. I know the game needs every dollar it can get but this is short sighted in the extreme.
