Id say probably one of the dumbest things Ive seen ever in League was Mark Carroll deciding to leave a strong Penrith squad for Souths.

How bout Fletcher leaving the premiers to join the wooden spooners??

You will find that the majority of players that leave the Broncos and Bulldogs go on to have very avg careers.

Webb
Prince
Hodges
Priddis
Thurston
Rauhihi

all did fine

i think you find its more to do with the fact that the Broncos and Bulldogs generally don't lose players they want to keep

Surprised there's been no mention of the Raiders. Jason Smith anyone? Matt Adamson? Clinton Schifcofske? That's to name but a few who were on the scrapheap before they came to us.

Jamaal Lolesi, Brett Finch and Joel Monaghan all left for bigger and better things, however failed to ever go near the form they showed at canberra. Mick Monaghan was also in fair form for the raiders before manly destroyed him.

i think you will find that roberts was not at penrith in 2003 and that lewis was on the wing.
in fact whatuira was penriths centre all year and even played in thier grand final win.

that was in 2004, the year Robberts was at Penrith, and Girdler's last year for the backline I put up. in 2003, Lewis moved into Robberts wing spot and Whatuira moved to starting center. I am sure Penrith could certainly do with them both now.

When can you lose your bias and realise that no players have ended up better off under the Eagles coaching staff you wank. I dont care if we lost to you's in 2006, fact is we develop players better than you, that is what this thread is about...deal with it.
I will lose my bias ways when you stop taking a stab at manly with your pathetic cheap shots at every oppertunity you get, so it doesnt look to be anytime soon. What dogs fans feel about rocco manly fans feel about you.

Pre-2002...yeah (which is now 5 years ago). Now the Bulldogs struggle to keep their players in a big way.

Parramatta Eels. Why?

* Eric Grothe Junior - couldn't get any game time at the Roosters; comes back to the Eels, and is the best winger in the game.

* Fuifui Moimoi - if he manages to not get suspended for too long this year, he should figure heavily in the Kiwi Test side calculations. Before he came to the Eels, he was grossly unfit. Now, he's one of our best props.

* Wade McKinnon - a solid nuffy at Souths; since coming back home, he was seen as one of the best all round fullbacks in the game. Maybe not quite rep standard, but I doubt many clubs would knock him back.

* Craig Stapleton - had a good solid year at Parra, we didn't re-sign him and some lucky other clubs snapped him up.

And, in 2007, you can add Brett Finch to the list. ;-)

And you wonder why nobody takes eels fans seriously....

Panthers are also pretty good of making the best use of their recruits. Amos Roberts and Craig Stapleton just to name a few.

I see the Panthers as a club that resurrects careers. Amos Roberts was floundering, had a blinder of a season at Penrith, and has been pretty good since linking up with the Chooks. Stapleton wasn't exactly on the scrap heap, but came back to Australia, and was our best forward in 2006 (and was then inexplicably let go). Now we have Firman... his fifth club in pretty much as many years. Let's wait and see... but if past history is anything to go by, he SHOULD go all right.

But for every Roberts, there's a Hookey, and for every Stapleton, there's a Franze.

Correct. The emergence of Roberts in 2004 meant that Whatuira was "squeezed" out of the backline, but was too good to play PL, so a compromise was found by playing him off the bench. Usually worked a treat too.

nothing compares with saints in the late 80's. except perhaps the bunnies of 1990-2006.

it was the black hole of league careers.

furthermore in light of this, every other club should hang their collective heads in shame that we won the '88 panasonic cup.

Chad Randall and Witty are just two players for starters that were poorer for being at Manly.

.

Witt was playing reserves at Parramatta in 2004, and couldn't make a team that came equal with Cronulla and Manly (i.e: sh*t). Randall spent his entire career at Manly before heading off to play in the English League with a middle of the run club...

...Maybe they got uglier during thier time at Manly, but they pretty much stayed true to form playing wise.

You can scratch hodges off that list. i dont know why you even bothered with that one. he was totally useless at the roosters, and is only back to his peak now that hes with brisbane again.

well they are better than Lewis and Rooney now, seems like u let the wrong 2 go. Either that or Lewis and Rooney aren't getting any hype because of the Panthers poor 2005 and 2006, you wouldn't be crucified for thinking they fell off the face of the Earth.

I must say i didnt pay too much attention to Luke O'Donnell when he was at the tigers so i dont know what kind of a player he was then, i doubt he was an Origin and International though, hes done well at the Cowboys.

As far as "eye for tallent" goes i dont think you could look too far past the Storm, look at who theyve brought through in recent years:

Cameron Smith
Billy Slater
Greg Inglis

to name a few.

Eric Grothe Junior had a large time at Easts but his heart was never in it.

He's back where he belongs and playing the kind of football that brings a smile to your face.

Justin Hodges had a large time too and played some amazing football but again he's back where he belongs.

As for teams that "break" careers, well it's obvious that Cronulla holds the mortgage for that title. Probably the only title they'll ever have. Anyone joining Cronulla automatically commits career suicide.

What a load of sh*t, care to back it up with any numbers? We rarely buy any high profile players, and Kimmorley was average when he came to us, not our fault he is complete sh*t, I doubt he'd be any different at any other club.

The best example that could be used would probably be Vagana if any, not Kimmorley. That said, I struggle to think of any other high profile players who have their career broken at the Sharks.

Yeh once they had to actually had to pay players within the salary cap limits, they struggled with retention. Funny that....
