I guess you probably know this, but anyway. The res people use would mainly be down to 2 things:

*what their graphics card can handle
*how big their monitor is - the bigger it is, the larger the res will (or should) be set.

But seriously I thought it would be good for people to know what screen resolutions most people use. That way if or when decisions are made about the 'look' of the site, we can always show curious forummers the feedback.

It's either an evil conspiracy or some thoughtful web designer want to set the optimun resolution at a level that both looks aesthetically pleasing and allows most people to viiew the site without using the scroll bar. Take your pick.
