In terms of crowd attendances
Broncos and Bulldogs are well ahead

In terms of TV Viewers
Broncos and Eels lead

In terms of actual fans
Broncos by a mile, can't split Eels, Dogs and Dragons for 2nd

It would most likely be;

1. Broncos
2. Bulldogs
3. Eels

Broncos are far and away the team with the biggest fanbase, Bulldogs and Eels are massive as well. Then again, there are a lot of statistics to base it on...i.e. Broncos and Eels are first and second (respectively) most watched teams on T.V, but the Eels average home crowd is far lower compared to the Bulldogs.
Tigers, Dragons and Souths are pretty big too as far as I know.

It's not that much lower. The bulldogs home average was 18 ,709 and ours was 17 080. Our average this year was even higher than that of the dragons who had 16, 820.

largest numbers of 'loyal' fans = Souths hands down

largest number of fans when doing well = broncos, bulldogs, maybe eels at 3

smallest number of fans regardless if the win premiership or not = roosters/sharks

Locally, which is where the crowd figures come from, you would have to go Broncos, then Parra, Dragons.

But, throughout the country I'd back the Dragons. They have organised support groups in Melb & Brisbane and from someone who has travelled around a fair bit, I would say the Dragons are the most popular team in the regional areas, by a fair way. Next best, throughout the country, would be Souths, IMO.

It really depends what you define as a supporter. By and large I'd say Brisbane. Out of the Sydney clubs the Dogs, Eels, Dragons, Tigers then daylight then Souths then daylight then the rest. Souths would have a lot of supporters coming out of the woodwork if they actually made the semis for a couple of years running.

In Sydney it's gotta be Tigers, Dragons and Bulldogs.

Wests basically have Campbelltown/Camden support and the inner city whilst Dragons have the Gong support to go along with the widespread support around the Sydney metropolitan area.

Eels have a lot but some are bandwagoners.

I'm sure I read something that said the Tigers games are the most watched on the box.

There was an article last week, I'll try to find it, it had the viewers for every sport team in Australia across all codes, it ranked:

1. Brisbane Broncos
2. Parramatta Eels
3. Collingwood Magpies

No, Broncos and Eels are the two most watched football clubs in Australia (even ahead of AFL and RU clubs).

Yes those four are huge, but you would find that if Souths made the semi's for a few years running (like Eels Dude said) their visible supporter base would grow exponentially.
Out of the Sydney clubs it is most likely; 1. Bulldogs 2. Eels 3. Rabbitohs 4. Dragons 5. Tigers

I am not so sure though to be honest, there really isn't a definitive way to tell; different statistics all tell a different story, but you can unanimously say the Broncos definitely have the biggest fanbase.

Nobody can ever know the true result unless you knocked on the door of every Aussie, so I guess we can only speculate.

I look at it this way;

If every team had its best ever season, playing exciting footy and with a roster of players who weren't in strife in the media and were premiers, I would guess:

1. Broncos
2. Dogs
3. STG
4. Souths
5. Newcastle
6. Dogs
7. Parra
8. Tigers
9. Titans
10. Raiders
11. Panthers
12. Storm
13. Roosters
14. Manly
15. NZ
16. Sharks

Like I said, this is merely speculation and I most likely have it all wrong.

I do think that STG and Bulldogs are probably the most supported in Sydney although Parra and Souths cannot be underestimated. I would like to see what the Sharkies could do with a successful year, and if NZ had some real success they would most likely have more support that I assumed.
Newcastle are a well supported club and I remember vividly how much support NQ had when they were at their peak.....they are crazy up north when the Cows are on a roll.

No wonder the Dogs have an endless Salary cap, they can field 2 teams!

Eels easily have the biggest supporter base in sydney..Dogs might have the biggest diehard base, but when the wagon fills, the eels have a huge catchemnt which exceeds any team ..problem for them is that everyone out that now is mortgaged tot he eye balls so dont go to as many games.

There is absoltuely no way that souths are ahead of parra. They have yet to prove anything fan wise despite years of promise since their re-introduction ans seasons filled with promise (such as this year)...

Roosters v dogs latest couple at sfs had bugger all doggies there compared to a few years ago.

Obviously the Broncos are #1 by a fair margin. Then you have the well-supported Sydney teams in a group: Saints, Parra, Dogs, Souths, and the Tigers. After that you'd have the teams with large catchment areas: New Zealand, Cowboys, Melbourne, maybe Newcastle.

But this is all pissing in the wind. What I do know is that the Dragons have the most dispersed fan base. Everywhere you go you find red and white fans. I know the area I grew up (Tweed Valley) had fans of every team, but St. George were definitely number 1 (and I wasn't one of them at the time). The local team (back then the Seagulls) had no following at all. Some followed them as a second team, but very, very few would have admitted being an actual Seagulls fan. The deifference between the Seagulls and the Titans in terms of local support is chalk and cheese. I'd say these days the Tits probably would be number 1, especially with the kids.

Another impression I get is that Saints fans tend to insist on their kids following the faith more than fans of other teams. Which probably explains the wide supporter base.

Didn't he dogs have the highest selling jersey as well as having the higest crowd average? Look at he higest crowds in Sydney this year. the Dogs feature in he majority of them. Bris first but definitely dogs second. I'd say tigs third then probably parra then dragons.

Dragons do have higher away support than the Bulldogs. You could effectively argue that Dragons & Dogs are effectively tied for second place, depending on what you emphasise as 'support'. Tigers/Eels slightly behind them and gaining fast.

Broncos-Bulldogs-Dragons-Tigers-Eels are our equivalent of the AFL's big 4.

The heffas of the "Dragons Army" make Magda Szubanski look like Kate Moss ffs, this isn't even counting Timmah

How can Saints claim anything when they can't even fill Kogarah for a semi final? What did they get against Manly? 15k? For a team like St George that is a disgraceful crowd for a semi.

Sure, they may make the most noise but the Eels, Tigers and Dogs in that order would smash Saints in terms of supporters.
