I don't recall the Dragons ever getting 74k to a semi and couldn't fill the SFS five years ago even though they had first shot at the tickets. The Dragons supporter base is a myth. Yes, they have a lot of inbred diehards who have no life but they would rank fifth in terms of supported Sydney teams.

The Dragons supporter base is a myth.

Maybe the Sydney base numbers are, however have you ever been to Suncorp/Skilled when we play brisbane or Titans, always close to 50-50 crowd.

You want a fan base myth, look at the Faiders. Maybe one sellout in the last 20 years, biggest bandwagon supporters in the comp.

I look at last years qualifying final and the Eels had more fans than the Dogs, but not by much. No other Sydney teams have come close to a crowd like that since the inception of the NRL.

I think Saints best crowd was the 51k they got against Cronulla in 99.

As is canberra's, one sellout in the last 20 years, biggest bandwagon supporters in the comp.

Where did I claim we had the biggest supporter base dickhead? We are well down the list and are starting to attract fans but I am yet to see a Raiders fan saying we have a massive supporter base.

Did I touch a reaw nerve princess ? or are you finding it difficult knowing your season is over early, yet again?

No, you didn't claim that.

Have a bex, take a deep breath and lie down, you don't want to pull a hamstring getting all worked up.

Didn't he dogs have the highest selling jersey as well as having the higest crowd average? Look at he higest crowds in Sydney this year. the Dogs feature in he majority of them. Bris first but definitely dogs second. I'd say tigs third then probably parra then dragons.

It has to be put in perspective just a little. Parra play all their home games at parra stadium, bar 2 of them, souths and dogs.

Of the other games, parra sold out twice IIRC. Now when ticket sales are high, and near sell out, you dont get many of the 'blow in' crowds, that decide to rock up to parra stadium last minute. Now this problem wont happen at the dogs home games, because there will always be seating available for the fans that decide to turn up last minute.

Tigers also take 4 home games to the SFS, which allows them to inflate their crowds a little to.

Im sure if the eels had a stadium that could accommodate 30000 people, then their crowd figures would of been above that of the tigers and the dogs.

I'm fine Johnsy but your logic as usual, is geniused.

Not fussed we are out of the comp to be honest and we both know I am anything but a bandwagon supporter, it's just I feel I have a responsibility to the rest of the forum to inform them of how much of a dickhead you really are as a worthwhile community service.

Sure, many members already realise this based on the team you follow and litany of sh*t you have left behind over the years. However, as a growing community there are new members joining all the time and they'd be well advised to steer clear of your steamers whenever possible.

So basically what Johnsy is saying, is that his head counting methods got him around 20,000 fans to Suncorp this year, yet for a final at their home ground they could only manage 15,000

LOL

That's exactly it Raiders. Such a powerhouse club attracts a paltry 15k to a home semi at their spiritual home ground.

Even us bandwagaon Raiders fans got 12k more than that on Friday night.

Yeah it was a great crowd in canberra for an elimination final. They should be congratulated for turning up once in 2010.

I hope you take notice of the crowd on Saturday night for our elimination final.

I will Johnsy but we both know the hillbilly Tigers fans will outnumber Dragons fans by a long way. Some Tigers fans even have teeth.

My only issue is you chose a lame insult that had no relevance to the thread topic so I thought why not respond in kind.

Believe it or not, I am going for Saints in this game. I can't ever cheer for a side that has that unflushable turd Bryce Gibbs.

I think you'll find my claim was "close to 50/50".

I must have hit a raw nerve legend.

"Close to 50/50"... so let's give you 47% of the fans.

42,269 x 0.47= 19866 ~ 20,000

More demented Dragons logic. Tail between your legs son and move slowly out of the thread

What semi final (preliminary final, actually) has ever drawn anywhere near 74K previously? Have the Dragons ever had a preliminary final against a rival Sydney team at ANZ? Well yes, albeit one with a small support base (Cronulla in 99, which drew 51k). This week's game against the Tigers is the first comparable match to last year's Dogs-Parra game that the Dragons have been involved in: same venue, same stage of the finals, another Sydney team with a large support base as an opponent, and plenty of media hype. Make your comparisons after Saturday night.

The only other preliminary final we played at ANZ was against Melbourne in 06, where we drew 40k. By way of comparison, Parra drew 44k against the Cowboys in 05, and the Dogs in 06 against the Broncos drew a Roosters-like 29k to the SFS (the closest comparable game for the Tigers was the semi against Brisbane in 05, which drew 36k at the SFS). I'd like to bring Souths into the comparison, but alas I don't believe the NRL's records go back to the 17th century.
