Wow just heard we were offering over 900k, I thought 800k was too much so that’s pretty crazy.

I dunno, there actually seems to be a crazy amount of halves available at the end of the year.
Adam Reynolds
Shaun Johnson
Anthony Milford
Mitch Pearce
Connor Watson
Corey Norman
Ash Taylor
Scott Drinkwater
Ryley Jacks
Tex Hoy

To be honest, very few of those would be worth the effort but I was quite surprised at that list.
We should get shaun back but only if its a good deal and it just feels right he finishes his career a warrior.

Really?

I reckon that ship has sailed for both us and him.

I was thinking about this the other day, and I’d be more than happy if we were able to pick SJ up on about 750k for a few years.

He’a winding down career wise, he’s still got a bunch of try assists and a good short kicking game in him.

IMO we looked a playmaker short of being a really good team on the weekend. If we got SJ and picked up Duffy, someone who has got an error in him but also has try assists and forced drop outs in his game, we’d be looking pretty decent next year.

I don’t think we’ll get him tbh, but if you look at what’s available, we’re not going to get any of the big names over here and the young guys aren’t going to be great right off the bat. He’d be able to do a job immediately for us, and that will put us in good contention for a top 4 spot IMO

So with Lawton released we have his coin and spot in the 30 man roster to fill this yer right? And $1 mill freed up for next year with RTS departure.

Surely our priority has to be to get a decent hooker contracted asap. What the options? Canberra has Hodgson, Havili, and Starling. Starling missed out on the 17 last week and isn't in the 17 this week either. Maybe we should try and poach him?

Still not getting the lack of love for Egan... sure if we could get a Grant, Cook Koroisau, or Smith... but beyond that I’m not seeing the issue, he’s clever. If 9 was the issue they should have gone after McInnes. Do need a backup though...

Halves remain the issue, imo, both have a lot to prove ... if they don’t I’d be going after Pearce or Reynolds, unlikely I guess, but if we have a good season they’ll want to be with competitive teams ( fully expect the Bunnies to keep Reynolds). I’d pass on Johnson.

why arent we looking in queensland cup or nsw cup for a hooker?. Surely one of those teams has a hooker thats up to the mark and going to be more NRL ready than our juniors playing inferior opposition in the auckland comp.

We have an ex NRL hooker in our Queensland Cup side, Manaia Cherrington. Dont know if he is affiliated with us though or with Redcliffe directly..

Hypothetically - what if Shaun Johnson had always been a Shark from the start of his career? Would we be interested in signing him now? I reckon we'd probably be at the front of the queue, which means it'd be his perceived history/baggage that's putting us off now, instead of his on-field play.

So that begs the question, should we all put our big-boy pants on and sign the best players who will give us a realistic shot at a title?

Anyway it's all a moot point, I agree that the ship has sailed. It's just interesting to think about.

i think the NRL should be a bit more innovative with their contracts. In the NBA they can sign 10 game contracts (82game season in NBA so obviously would be less games in NRL) and then after that can decide whether they will go after that player in the future, even if they cant keep them for the whole of the season. If it allowed teams to take a shot on people we might uncover some talent that is going missed. Sometimes players rise to the occasion when given a chance.

Wonder if we can get James Webster out of retirement.....

(one for the OG's)

It's interesting because potentially we could need a Fullback, Half and Hooker next year.
Roger going, Egan already gone.
Kodi with his option yet.
I wonder if he is waiting to see what happens with Jayden (who is out injured atm)
