Who do we need to recruit in 2018?

OK, so that's the 2018 team I posted the other day. Given the news in the player market I would review:

1. Tedesco (Bird if he goes)
2. Nofoaluma
3. Suli
4. Whare
5. Feldt (doesn't even have to be Feldt, I'd take any capable young winger waiting in the wings who has decent pace and solid hands)
6. Bird (Foran/Watson if Teddy goes)
7. Brooks

13. Taylor
12. Guerra
11. McQueen
10. Woods (Matulino if Woods goes)
9. Liddle
8. Seumanufagai

14. Grant
15. Aloiai
16. Lawrence
17. Evans

18. MCK
19. McIllwrick
20. Marsters

Felise, Tatola, Eisenhuth, Jacobs etc to round out the 25. Probably need some young backs in the mix. I still think we need to have a tilt at Guerra. Without him we're one good second rower short. If we dipped at Cronk we'd probably have to forego the additional second rower.

There's so many ways we can approach this but the club will have to take on a direction sooner rather than later.

I think we'll see some decisions in the next couple weeks we don't agree with but in the long term it'll work.

Penrith axed Jennings and Lewis with Cleary at the helm and made the top 4 next year. He knows what he is doing

Well we did have players like Fifita, Farah, Austin, TMM, Koreibete, Addo-Carr, Simon O'Dywer etc etc who were either mismanaged or suffered a career ending injury

One thing we have in our arsenal is we have a lot of cap to spend at the moment

So developing him for 2-3 years in Wests Tigers u20s before Penrith poached him doesn't make him a Tigers junior?

Thats like saying Marshall isn't either

keebra park have nothing to do with recognising your development programs, like logan no longer being raiders territory, they'll keep on keeping on.

When Cleary came to Penrith he faced the same destabilising issues that Potter and Taylor had to battle against....when senior rep players ( or even just one with influence) are openly scornfull of every decision and direction of the coach. .. sarcastic comments....second guessing his every direction behind his back but in front of the young players who have idolised them since they were in school ,then they have to go regardless of their individual talent or reputation....it's a team sport...your'e either onside / on the bus ( as cleary seems to prefer) or pack your bags and go pull your head in somewhere else

Keebra park develop their own players yes true. But it's not unusual to then see these keebra park prospects identified by the tigers, which the. between 6-8 a year join our systems at Wests Tigers. These players would be no older than 17/18 max

From then on it's all our developement, that's the whole point of having a "feeder club"

The problem is its dragging out.

My view is we put two or so wins on then Teddy and Woods stay.

Even then, it takes it out to close to the end of the month.

There are a few big players off contract and we need to see whether we have space for them. I hope their is a time limit on our big 2.

What's the hold up with Woods? He wanted to know who was coaching, now he knows you would think he would make a decision.
Moses had a good back end last year but hasn't kicked on again this year,if he wants to play for a stronger team than he should look at his own game and realise he isn't that flash himself. He played in the All star game at the start of the season and was just about the worst player on the field.
Ted deserves what ever he can get within reason.
Brooks hopefully will kick on again under Ivan.
McQueen,Matulino,Capewell,Whare would be good additions to our squad, its clear we need a few other signings also.

I've been thinking about this the past couple of days and some of the comments being made by these guys make me think that they aren't confident in their own games, especially when they state they want to play for teams who make the finals on a consistent basis. It would be a different kettle of fish though if said they wanted to play at better run clubs with clear visions and objectives. To me, they are looking for a quick fix and ride off the success of others rather than back themselves and lead the charge. You just have to have a look at our games and imo none of these guys really stand out as leaders. Sure Woods and Teddy do a lot of work, but they don't demand a lot of the others on the field from my obsverations.

Whom ever we recruit, at least one should be of leadership material. A real leader on and off the field, someone who demands professionalism from the playing group (from within the group here, not just from the coaching staff and management). Who that player is, I don't know though Cronk would be a fantastic pick-up.

Furthermore if Woods isn't staying I'd take the captaincy off him and give it to Taylor asap

In a weird weird way I'm actually more excited for this year than I have been since the start of 2012. We have an almost clear cap, a proven coach with full control, an excellent S&C department, and we have put our foot down when it comes to players expecting us to pay overs.

Lets say we re-sign Teddy and Woods, plus all the players we are linked to then our starting line up could actually look like:

1. Tedesco
2. Nofo
3. Whare
4. Hiku
5. Suli
6. Widdop (just throwing a name out there)
7. Brooks
8. Woods
9. MM
10. Mautilino
11. Lawrence
12. Mqueen
13. E. Taylor

14. Liddle
15. Ava
16. K Evans
17. Sue

This team is miles better than anything we have put on the field in years. We then have Felise, Alaoi, Marsters, Chee Kam all as depth

Sorry mate but Lawrence needs to come off the benc at very best..
He is not getting any better ...hands and defence not up to it this year..
Need a big boy..Someone like Ellis.

Yeah Lawrence really needed to stamp himself as a backrower this year and has failed to do so.

Time to go to nsw cup mate.

Chris is just that really good depth player that we need. Can fill in in the back row or at centre and is no longer at his best, but would try his heart out as depth.

I couldn't sack Lawrence. Yes he has some shockers but he runs hard and that side really isn't the problem defensively. I got bench him but I don't see him adding a lot of value there. If we get two gun edge backrowers then put him on the bench. Can you imagine him playing dummy half ?
