so what exactly in the book makes u think he has a defeatist attitude?

i find it hard to believe anyone with the motor hindy had is a defeatist .... I don't think he is the type to inspire others which didn't make him the best captain, but he never stopped, never gave up on a chase, etc and that is certainly not defeatist at a personal level

On a personal level ? No. In the book he openly stated that he shit himself before big games and especially before the GF in 2009 when he found out that we were playing Melbourne. With that run we should have feared no team. That negative shit rubs off on other players, especially when you are the Captain. Do you think Ray Price would say such things ?

I admire Hindy's honesty he is one of our greats but probably the worst captain we have ever had. He should never have been the captain in the first place. Look back in my posts I never wanted him to be the Captain. Not everyone can be a leader but yes I admit he was a mighty fine soldier.

Just my thoughts.

Agreed. Trying your hardest isn't the be-all and end-all of a good attitude. If you're trying your guts out while thinking you're going to lose, you'll probably lose.

It's the difference between playing to win and playing not to lose. If someone thinks they're the same thing he might be a loser himself.

I think Hindy was a good leader but not in a captaincy sense. He would 100% be in my leadership group but I'd like the captain to have a more alpha personality. The fact that he would tackle until he spewed made team mates respect him. Players would have loved to play with him. But good captains usually have a bit more spark or mongrel to their personality. You think about Chief, Wally, Sticky, Joey, Alfie, Daley - none of them ever s**t themselves before a big game. And they all had a fair share of hot head or merkin in them (except Daley perhaps).

Pay and Sticky add a good mix of hothead and merkin to Parra this year and that should rub off on the attitude of the playing group and the new skipper.

Very true. I think Kearney was too calm and laid back for our young squad. Also why I hope Maitua gets the captaincy. He just looks like a merkin.

For what it's worth, mannah led the team out tonight.

Neither hothead nor merkin. He does seem very positive though, and he wants to lead, which is important.

The one game Hindy didn't play last year (round 2 vs Warriors), Mannah was the captain.

i get what u guys r saying but i wouldnt call hindy a defeatist .... i think he has a fear of failure - so is probably less confident than the top merkins of the game ... and i think he is honest - i reckon many other top successful players woud have fears too, just wouldn't admit it

Lol. Can't blame Hindmarsh, Kearney or anyone else for that matter now. 41-4. Joke. This was the team that will apparently take the field should Hayne, Maitua and Smith not be available. This season looks set to be longer than last year.

Why are you so angry and pessimistic ? Serious question.

Serious answer. I can be. Tired of excuses, talk and changes being made without fully exploring every option available to the club. For everything that happens we seem to be going backwards, not forwards.

You sound like a bloke who sells all his shares as soon as they close the day with a loss.

I'd wait until the regular season to start getting angry. It's better we had this loss in a trial bit if it happens iagain in round 1 then no excuses.
