Who's better?

Never saw Fahey so I can only say Blacklock as he could sure find the tryline, but tingha wasn't the greatest defender so if old mate could tackle he gets the points there.

Brent Sherwin or Craig Gower?

picking Mullen over Dally M winner Carney is the wrong answer....

Also as great as Freddy was, I think Thurston pips him

I disagree. Freddy had to carry a lot of ordinary players in his early years at the Roosters, he was the only option in attack, yet the Roosters never missed the finals whilst Freddy was at the club. Also he was such a great defender he could play in the back row, something Thurston could never do. If you needed a game winning tackle, Fittler could produce it, Thurston would not as his defence was not a strong part of his game. He did have an edge over Fittler in goal kicking though.

Gower. Better passing game, better defender and could play hooker too.

Mick Cronin or Steve Rogers?

I think Thurston played with some pretty average players at the cowboys as well. Thurston was better in origin than Fitler with numerous MOM awards, I think Freddy only got 1 in 30 something games. Thurston won the Dally M player of the year 4 times, Freddy never won it. Maybe Freddy was just unlucky but for individual awards he falls well short of Thurston. Freddy got pushed to the backrow for NSW cause he shared the 5/8 position with Laurie Daley. Both outstanding players and Freddy was easily a better defender but Thurstons record is just too good.

Thurston was better than Freddy in Origin because he won more MOM awards? 🤣 Sorry but that is the dumbest criteria I've ever heard. You must have thought then that Thurston deserved the CC Medal for his great game in the 2015 Grand Final then.

I don't have a problem if you think Thurston was better, but MOM awards is probably the worst criteria you could have used to compare them considering the number of players over the last 20-30 years who got MOM awards that many felt didn't really deserve them.

f**k the Daily Telegraph’s gold star award, Carney is a f**king softcock lol?! Does he even have a criminal conviction to justify all those toughie stickers? Rolled over for pissing in his mouth without saying boo to the Fair Work Commission f**ken lol.

Yep I agree, an argument could definitely be made for the Coffs Harbour Incident being a better player than Fred.

I did say Freddy was unlucky when it came to individual awards, should have won the CC medal in 2002 no question. I watched origin all through the 90s up until now. Freddy had some good games and some where he was invisible (1995, 2001). Thurston frequently ran circles around NSW, albeit probably not the greatest NSW side.

Reg and Mal were two very different types of centres. By all reports Reg was lightning quick, relying on speed and evasion to make breaks and set up his winger. Had a good passing game. Was also rock solid in defence.

Mal Meninga was a very good defender too, with a good passing game, but he was more of a power player relying on strength as opposed to speed. Hence I think they are way too different to be able to judge who was "better".
Would Mark Harris and Mal Meninga have made a closer matchup? Both big runners. Both kicked goals.

I followed Parramatta back in the Day when both were playing and it is probably a split hair between them but Sludge was probably the more naturally gifted footballer but Cronin was such a strong ball runner, who laid on plenty of tries for his outside men like Steve Ella. Unfortunately Cronin's career was shortened by the finger in the eye that really did destroy his playing career...he did play on for a bit but wasn't the same player

Brett Kenny or Wally Lewis?

For mine, Kenny. Wally was a brilliant player, no doubt about it, and those of us outside Qld probably own saw him at his best during Origin. By the time he came into the NSWRL with the Broncos his skills were on a slow decline. That said Kenny was the one player who, when playing opposite Wally, could shut him down. In fact Wally and a number of Qld players said they were always relieved when Kenny was either not picked at all; by NSW or he was picked in the centres.

Kenny was a good defender, had soft hands with a good passing game, and probably one of the best steps I'd seen. Wally probably edges him as an organiser, and for his kicking in general play, but otherwise I think Kenny was better.

Brandy didn't fulfil his potential because his brother died, SJ hasn't because he's a lazy peaheart.

Brandy easy, but I'm biased. More reliable and superior team management, especially in the second half of his career. Johnson very good on his feet but so was Alexander. Brandy vs Benji would be a close run thing, both similar in style.

John Cartwright or Tony Puletua?
