Intresting threads this week.
Im amazed at how one can get excited about a sporting triumph for our country, but within a week get turned off it by the truckload of bandwagoners who suddenly slip off the NRL forums that they have lived on, and suddenly proclaim soccer as God. For me, the poor old Soccerroos are starting to have a Wallabies whiff about 'em -ie patronised by up themselves f**kheads who want to bag everything else.
Soccer has had a shot in the arm. A lot of people will follow their world cup progress. As we have seen, even the result that we all have been waiting for for 32 years couldn't raise national interest above a decent Friday Night Footy crowd on the tele, nor add one single person to the code's staple - the A league.
Which makes a lot of people (not the true soccer fans) hypocritical. They predict Soccer will finally wash over all opposition and be Australia's premiers sport withing 4 years. Yet that will never happen unless domestic soccer has AFL style gates and NRL style TV ratings - so that they can match the overseas salaries. If you won't go to the games, you will never make it a big sport in Australia.
With no League, AFL or Yawnion to compete with, the A league should be able to make much ground. But it wont.
