One of the major problems is the number of journalists and media knobs who come to Sydney as the Big Smoke from the southern states or Victorian bush towns to further their career ( see Koch and half of Ch7 News)
Who on earth from Sydney or Brisbane is going to voluntarily go to bleak city
Most of the so called players in AFL in western Sydney are the children of parents from interstate. I have some team close to me that is supposedly making inroads, they have 3 junior teams with the teams covering 2 years eligibility to get the numbers required for a side.
What they do is throw money, a player that did play both games was accepted into an age talent squad in league, he played AFL on Sunday's, to keep him he was offered 3 times what you would get as initial school aged incentive at either Parra or the Riff.
He is still there but would like to come back to league , but missing 2 years teenage competition makes it difficult. They keep overfunding AFL in the western suburbs, but for how long
