Pure Fantasy? So I dreamt Cook's comments? He was just ringing PVL to ask about the weather? Dropped half a million this year into to bid team just for a laugh ....

U know how much it costs to run team?! State govt not going to provide a fraction of that: hence all bs talk about mystery millionaires..

Nor should they. What they will hopefully be offering is infrastructure building projects and jnr funding that supports the clubs operations to be long term sustainable. I f they want to chuck in a bit of WA tourism sponsorship thats up to them and wouldnt hurt start up.

Yeh 2 premiers being very public about supporting an NRL team here was just political grandstanding according to pippen as they havent rung him personally to explain what they are offering lol.

So when you say paying for expansions your talking about paying for the annual running costs.

It's the job of the bid team (currently being funded by the government) to find private backers to fund the club into the future. No one would expect the government to run the team. They'll help develop a business model based on running costs, NRL Grants and other forms of income. Liaise between potential backers and the NRL.

I'm sure they are also accessing government funding options for critical infrastructure such as an CoE and ground upgrades. It's not far fetched at all to expect both a CoE and ground upgrades to happen here in Perth with a supportive State Premier and massive budget surplus.

Again just because this is not playing out in the Sydney / Brisbane media doesn't mean nothing positive is not happening in the background. The funded bid team are not just sitting there staring at a phone waiting for PVL to call.

Wa govt may want team to rent out stadium & bring tourism, but they need somebody to fund & run it. All the studies in the world won't change that fact..

If twiggy is paying for it then its sustainable. If not then team folds after losing season..

NRL, fans and corporates. Same as nearly all NRL clubs in this day and age lol The days of clubs relying on pokies or rich owners to keep afloat are thankfully over.

$17mill grant + $15mill football club revenue. = viable.

Lol, that's why last expansion was dolphins & next will be cashed tigers or PNG with federal money. Perth wouldn't be inventing mystery millionaires narrative if rich backers wasn't requirement.

successful businessmen running a club will very def be part of the business case and confidence in deciding who is viable. Money isnt the issue, clubs are now all profitable, even the ones really badly run or at bottom of table.

There is no consortium. None of the supposed successful businessmen have been named. The exact support the wa govt would provide has not been explained.
Irresponsible to advocate for expansion to city with no known group.

So you are still calling John Sackson a liar?

“There is a consortium of very successful businessmen in Perth who are also passionate rugby league people that are working behind the scenes and doing lots of ground work,” Sackson said.

Some nrl bids are getting support for the club itself and to also build pathways

Perth might get a roof on the ground they share with soccer and union
