Why is Robson a halfback??

I have seen nothing in Mortimer's game to suggest he is a halfback. A top number 6 but not a 7. Kris Keating needs to prove himself but I think injuries may stunt his career.

I also like Mateo at 6, especially if we try Mortimer at 7. However who will play lock ? Ben Smith I assume. I however take Jake's post above as an indicator in relation to Mateo at 6.

Either you are joking or you have absolutely no idea?
Morts has 7 written all over him,he can controll a team. With your reasoning in this matter sterlo/joey/Turvey/Tommy are all wrong.
1 hayne
6 KK
7 morts
9 MK
that combo will take us places for a number of years

I don;t think that will happen unless lots of injuries.

We have Mortz, Robson, KK. Mateo and Humble as possible backups with Hayne.

Humble can be a huge smokie for next season!

Smith, Shack, Hindy. Don't know about Shack but the other 2 can play 80mins.

As in other threads, I reckon FFMM will take a 2nd row spot during games when FFMM, Poore and Caylo will be on the field at the same time.

Shack is a athlete, im sure he can do it!

Love the idea of fui in the backrow. He ran twice wide in the finals and blew two games right apart. I think with Poore, Cayless and Mannah i think we got the front row covered without Moi Moi.

Do you think DA and Sharp can change Wellar's attitude? It is very EARLY FUI like and dare I say it Hayne and INU like earlier on in the year.

Hayne should take Wellar to Fiji.

I wanna see what DA can do with Mateo over the offseason. He is still a uncut diamond, if he can shed 5kgs and forfil his athletic potential, he could be anything!

Well I am most certainly in the Daniel Mortimer for halfback group.

He has a great kicking game that will only get better, with maturity and strength.

He is a great reader of the game.

He will have no problem yapping at his forwards and organising them.

He will work well with the dummy half and his support up the middle is already there.

Humble will be a great foil for him too.

Mateo @ lock offloading to either Morts, Humble or Hayne will be very dangerous.

Finally someone with knowledge and he isnt even a parra supporter.. people morts is a 7,there is no doubt about this. kk is an instinctive 6 running off morts intelligence and mateos offloads, its a premiership winning combo..As for robson, well he will make a half decent lock for wenty.

Pazza, what's Humble's defense like? We see alot of his attacking abilities but what about his defense.

Fui running at the little'uns will also prolong his shelf life and playing time. I mean running against 3 big forwards must take more out of you than running at a halfback.

And as you mentioned, those 3 props should handle the rotation as Poore plays quite alot of minutes too.

In the GF, Mateo was very good but there was no support. There is always support for Hindy but you always see Mateo look back and there is no one there. hmmmmm.

I don't like Mateo's defense. He grabs like our old mate VELLA.

His defense is sound. His attack is his strong suit, but he can tackle and is far from a turnstyle. Defends as good as any other bloke his size.

I watch a lot of QLD cup and go to the games regularly.

Humble was a standout all season.

my answer to this thread is robson isnt a half in any shape or form.He offers nothing whatsoever to the team as a half in reguards to setting anyone up,his passing and kicking game is crap.He is a good defensive lock and that is all.
They have re signed him cos he came cheap and he can cover for injuries. He is a crap half and i dont understand the love a thon people have with him here lately. It is very similar to the lowrie love a thon lately, just cos they tackle. They both showed thier capabilities in the GF

What he does do well is get the ball out to the right people. i.e. playing the link man.

Especially during our 2nd phase play. He rarely rarely hogs it and goes himself ala Finch. He knows there are better players around and he gets the ball to those players.

Finch used to hold it, run a bit and if he didn't turn it back to the inside, he was tackled with it.

Never do you see the backs get the ball when Finch was here.

At least with Robson, the backs get the ball.

During our run, INU, Burt, Reddy and Grothe all got good ball.

When Finch was here, hardly.

So that's the good point about Robson. He fits into the current style of the team but as I have said before, if someone was better, I wouldn't mind giving someone else ago.

Resigning him for mine was an act or respect and love in the team.

I think the Robson critics need to understand what he brings to the team.

He's not the flashiest player going around but when you have talent like Hayne, Inu, Mateo and Mortimer who play very well off the cuff you need players like Robson to take up more responsibility in organising the team to get the best out such players. Robson is limited in talents but he has been around for a long time and knows what is expected of him and has been doing a very good job.

If Mortimer and Keating are going to be the halves they will have much more responsibility and the jury's out as to how that will affect their game because from what I have seen of them they seem to play better when they are left to their own devices and are able to pick and choose when to get involved.

I think Robo will be at 7 until KK re gains some confidence. Whether KK will be a stand out in the trials, will determine if he starts the season in the starting side.

I think with DA originally only willing to offer Robo a one deal, means that, he will only be a back up half, at best. He may get game time if there are injuries/suspensions.

DA has plenty of options for 6 and 7, and I believe a fit KK will partner Morts. Humble, if playing well, could also get a run, at some stage, with KK on the bench.

Mateo, will be at lock, but his game will need to be altered, from the start of the 09 season. He ran too much 1 out, and I believe, he is only an assett, if he is running out wide, trying to get 1 on 1, with a centre or halfback.

Moi Moi, could be the ultimate x factor next year. Poore and Cayless to start, with moi moi, coming on to create havick, and plenty of it out wide.

And another thing, the management at the eels, wouldn't be that dumb.

They will have a clause in place, that if Robo, doesn't play an X amount of games next year, then they can terminate his contract for the following year.

you're exactly right, for a meagre 50K he's been an amazing investment for this club and one of his other great assets other than his defence is his ability to follow the coach's instructions which for a first grade half back can be very difficult as most of them have minds of their own and tend to play what's infront of them, robo compliments the blokes around him and that's been a major reason of our success this year.

robo may play the back up role next year but he will still play a vital part for this squad, i think he'll start the season at 14 playing Kingas role.

Guys, wasn kk the only one making linebreaks at will before he got injured. i seem to remember that he had made a few clean ones but there was no support . I for one am hoping kk can keep himself injury free as i can see a cooper cronk style player in him and that would work well with morts next to him !

You will not be disappointed. But I do expect DA to be soild and give the blokes who did take them to the GF to have first crack.

Get down to wenty, and watch him standout.

What has got me is the cowboys prefered Burns. Wrong wrong wrong, Henry will regret that, big time.

I have a keen interest in QLD cup and the previous guys who stood out to me where Greg Inglis and Shannon Walker.

GI was a freak and @ 17 made them look like boys.
He continues to shine.

Shannon Walker has yet to step up, freakish pace, but a turnstyle, and may step up but has not yet.

Humble is in between, what impresses me most is the brain, he has great pace, and can read a game well. The NRL is a step up, but I reckon he will do great. Plays similar to Lockyer, best description I have. Not Lockyer but similar in playing style.

Let me be clear I am not comparing to Locky other than similar pace, hands and brain. Lockyer is the next immortal, not saying Tom is.

Like seriously, some of you para fans love him just because we started winning games. All he does is tackle, and offer little to nothing in attack. His got no long passing game. His got no long kicking game. Basically he offers nothing in attack. Thats what a half-back should do. Set up the attack. Robson plays like a hooker. All he does is tackle, n give short passes.

Mark my words. When KK comes in the squad, everyone, n I mean everyone will say robson who.

Oh and one more thing, his not a half-back. Get it through your heads. Why do you think it took him 10years to be discovered accidently.

I love him because he's good enough to do something neither you, me nor anyone else here can do - put on the blue and gold jersey and play First Grade for my beloved Eels.
