Why little mention of the CQ NRL bid?

Should the NRL introduce two new teams

No risk, No return. Bit silly to say having a heartland team is no risk then mentioning the GC given they were also an introduced heartland team!

Still spouting nonsense. CC Bears and WA Reds/WC pirates were doing this long before the CQ bid even formed!

http://www.cqnrlbid.com.au/2012/07/develop-develop-develop/
What junior development do the CC Bears have btw?

CQ NRL BID's grassroot and junior development plans and actual programs in place are second to none though. One of the players in the undefeated U14 squad has already been rated by one NRL Agent as "the next Quade Cooper, Shaun Johnson and Benji Marshall all in one"
How many other bids will bring in 25 development staff (11 FT, 11 trainee & assuming 3 senior roles) for their region?

They have been working on the central coast with jnr development and bringing back jnr clubs for years. PNG bid has done more jnr development than all the bids put together! I would I expect all the bids, except probably Bombers, will have significant jnr development programs if they get in. I know the Pirates have major plans to triple jnr playing numbers in WA.

Still if it makes CQ feel better keep saying it, say it enough times and someone might believe you!

Well im sure everyone will agree at least junior rl is already benefiting with these NRL bids that are strongly focused on being "Grassroots" focused clubs (actually implementing programs already), but with top corporate support.

So areas such as WA and CQ will clearly have massive boosts with a NRL club, as many CQ talent are still sitting at home prefering not to move (e.g. there's an 18 yo here who went from U18 MM Cup to Rocky U20s to Agrade to QCup in the one season, plus there are others in similar situations who were looked at by top clubs, while WA could have a lot of untapped potential. Even Barba didnt even get signed until a year after leaving school.

Totally agree, just had another of our WA kids sign up for Q'land cup this week.We have so much untapped Jnr talent in this country and others that there should be no excuse for so called dilution of talent due to expansion. Just need better funding and systems in place to realise the potential.

“CQ Have A Lot Going For Them”

Respected Rugby League journalist Steve Macord wrote about the issue of getting news from regional Australia into capital cities in the Sydney Morning Herald this week, and expanded on this in this week’s Rugby League Week.

For those who don’t know, Steve Mascord is a very experienced rugby league and NRL journalist (over 25 years experience) and has a wide range of columns – he is actually the most travelled journo for rugby league having been to locations such as Serbia, Italy, USA and Cook Islands. He recently discussed his reasoning behind why Perth (2014) and Central Queensland (2015) should be admitted to the NRL in a Rugby League Week column pointing out – “CQ turning into a news producing location rather than news-consuming” (city news into our region) and the money being spent to get a team.
I couldn’t agree more! With the bid starting in early 2009, everything possible is being ticked in order to earn our club! Central Queensland has a disadvantage in that the major rugby league media are situated in the Brisbane and Sydney fish-bowls, however overtime the bid has brought more media sources to cover our positives – but have needed to spend money and hire PR people. He is right, the game needs to act now, not wait even longer (potentially 5 years) and provide vision with expansion! The region has some of the strongest multi-national and national companies wanting to provide BIG BUCKS into a CQ NRL Club, this opportunity needs to be capitalised on to take full advantage.
If Television wants another Queensland team, CQ is the clear choice – other bids are only implementing some very similar plans, programs and partnerships that the CQ NRL Bid completed over a year ago, isn’t this a sign CQ is a lot further progressed??? We have government funding for a stadium and sports academy, a Leagues Club (with 12,000+ members), strong juniors, soon to have 2 strong development squads (some already earmarked as potential stars of the game), nearly 40,000 bid members / 10,000+ Social Networking fans (PROOF we have SUPPORTERS DESIRING A TEAM), school and junior programs ALREADY BEING IMPLEMENTED and assurance of LONG TERM FINANCIAL VIABILITY (sponsorship that some clubs can only dream of).
Mascord also said “While in Australia and the UK we have learnt expansion without grassroots is fraught with danger” – CQ will have the most extensive grassroots program (already evident over the last few years) and also a leading light for direct support.

<H1>Everyone is Entitled to an Opinion
August 14th, 2012
A recently published media article which stated that the NRL would not be expanding seems to have gained some credence, especially amongst some Bid sceptics. The well known and respected author of this material writes an opinion piece in the local press and that is exactly what it is &#8211; HIS OPINION.
Of course we have a completely different OPINION.
Over the last few months the Bid&#8217;s Chairman and I have meet with various senior NRL officials, national media management and reporters, a variety of potential corporate supporters, media and sports consultants, many elected and non-elected Government officials and a wide cross section of the community both general and specifically Rugby League. While opinions concerning the certainty of expansion vary, the overwhelming opinion favours expansion for the following logical reasons.
  • If the NRL are hoping to come anywhere near the billion plus dollars for the media rights that were secured by the AFL, then the television content quantity must be increased. More broadcast time equals more games equals more teams. I.e. the ninth NRL game must be played every week so the NRL club numbers must go from 16 to 18.
  • The NRL has reached quite amazingly high TV audience figures across several different time segments i.e. Friday night, Saturday afternoon and night, Sunday afternoon (soon Sunday night ) and Monday night. They want to grow these numbers and into more and different time slots. This cannot be achieved with the current 16 teams. They need more teams.
  • The NRL wants to secure its Heartland against the expansion ambitions of the AFL. It does not have the authority to forcibly relocate existing teams. They must introduce expansion teams to the traditional Rugby League regions especially in Queensland.
So why would the NRL expand into Central Queensland?
  • It is universally accepted that expansion must be considered in Queensland first. The three current Queensland teams do not provide the required quantity of rivalry games.
  • CQ is Heartland Rugby League with a proud heritage of the game going back over 100 years with champions continually being produced. The game will prosper in CQ and the grassroots will be supported with the most comprehensive development program ever introduced by any team or code in Australia.
  • There is no competing national team located in Central Queensland.
  • CQ is in the centre of the biggest economic boom that Australia has ever experienced so viability is assured.
  • The CQ NRL team will not negatively affect current NRL teams.
  • The CQ NRL team will present the game in the best possible light in a modern, world class stadium that will be a wonderful asset to the region. It will be a multi-purposed stadium capable of staging multiple national and regional sporting and cultural events.
  • The CQ NRL team will engender a sense of community pride and self esteem. It will lift liveability in CQ and be of significant economic benefit to our economy as well as providing many job and career opportunities.
Our OPINION has substance and is compelling.

2012 CQ NRL BID JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT SQUADS NAMED

The CQ NRL Bid has today announced the U/13s and U/14s squads (listed below) for the 2012 CQ NRL Bid Junior Development Program. Building on the success and momentum of last year&#8217;s inaugural program, the CQ NRL Bid will bring together 56 junior players from around CQ to participate in the program.

CQ NRL Bid Development Manager Walson Carlos said that this year&#8217;s program will allow the CQ NRL Bid to build on last year&#8217;s highly successful program.
&#8220;The CQ NRL Bid Junior Development Program is about so much more than producing good footballers. The program takes a holistic approach to the development of these young elite athletes and incorporates key elements like player welfare education, expert nutritional advice & media training. It is important that the players come away from the program having not only improved their rugby league capabilities, but also having grown as people.&#8221;

This year&#8217;s program will see the two teams embark on a mid-October Southern Tour in which they will play games against Keebra Park SHS (Gold Coast) and Marsden SHS (Brisbane). The CQ NRL Bid are also hopeful of staging a two-game home series and are currently in negotiations with several clubs and schools to try and make this happen. The home games would be played at Rockhampton and Gladstone. Walson Carlos expected more details to be finalised very soon.
&#8220;We (CQ NRL Bid) will have some very big announcements relating to the CQ NRL Bid Junior Development Squad over the next month and we are excited by where the program is headed this year.&#8221;

CQ NRL BID OFFICIALLY CRACKS 40,000 BID MEMBERS

Today the CQ NRL Bid&#8217;s support officially went to a new level ticking over the 40,000 bid members mark. Buoyed by the recent media rights announcement and imminent release from the ARL Commission of its Strategic Plan for the future of rugby league, CEO Denis Keeffe called on CQ NRL Bid supporters to really get behind the Bid;
&#8220;To reach 40,000 bid members is a fantastic achievement given when we first spoke with former NRL CEO David Gallop he said 30,000 people would be compelling. Now is not the time to sit back and rest on our laurels though so I&#8217;d encourage all those CQ NRL Bid supporters out there to get on to our website and sign up to be a Bid Member. Our next goal now is to get that number over 50,000&#8221; Keeffe said.
To become a CQ NRL Bid member people can visit www.cqnrlbid.com.au and follow the links to sign up. A live tally of member numbers can be viewed on the CQ NRL Bid homepage.

THE CQ NRL Bid's support officially went to a new level cracking the 40,000 bid members mark yesterday. The Bid's regional roadshow will be in Gladstone today to fill residents in on all they need to know about the NRL team that they could call their own.
There are two information sessions being held at Marley Brown Oval at 11am and 2pm.
Bid CEO Denis Keeffe and chairman Geoff Murphy will provide locals with information, take questions from the room and stick around afterwards to speak to residents.
CQ NRL Bid Development Manager Walson Carlos said that they were encouraging everyone to come, even those who may be a bit sceptical, to find out more information.
"It's a unique opportunity to speak to the two main drivers," he said.
"I can tell you, it's a really compelling presentation.
"Having a CQ team is a long-term solution. We're not going to take any players away from the other clubs.
"We're going to be adding sponsors to the game."
Mr Keeffe said he just wanted to talk about what was in it for people and make the community realise that it was not just a team for Rockhampton.
"Come and find out a little bit about what it will do for CQ and the people of Gladstone," he said.

Why should the NRL expand into Central Queensland?
CQ is heartland for rugby league with a proud heritage of the game going back more than 100 years with champions continually being produced.
There is no competing national team located in Central Queensland.
CQ is in the centre of the biggest economic boom that Australia has ever experienced so viability is assured.
The CQ NRL team will not negatively affect current NRL teams.
A CQ NRL team will engender a sense of community pride. It will lift liveability in CQ and provide many jobs and career opportunities.

GLADSTONE region's councillors are backing the CQ NRL Bid after a meeting on Monday.

Mayor Gail Sellers has long been a strong advocate for the bid and believes a local NRL team would open up multiple development pathways for local youth.

"We believe that Central Queensland is the heartland of rugby league," she said.

Although there are only 1732 members from Gladstone who have shown their support for the bid, Cr Sellers believes Gladstone could multiple that number by 10 if the community put its heart into it.

"I think it would be wonderful if everyone from Gladstone joined the bid and showed their support," Cr Sellers said.

"It doesn't cost anything.

"We can only be winners out of it."

For more information people should head down to the bid's regional roadshow tomorrow at 11am and 2pm to hear from CQ NRL Bid chief executive Denis Keeffe and chairman Geoff Murphy.

Larson supports CQ NRL bid

GREATS of the game including Gary Larson have rallied behind the CQ NRL Bid.

Jason Hetherington and Gary Larson support the CQ NRL bid.

GREATS of the game including Gary Larson have rallied behind the CQ NRL Bid.

Gladstone-born Larson who won praise with his tireless displays for North Sydney Bears and the Queensland State of Origin and Australian teams in the 1980s and 1990s, supports the bid.

Larson now coaches at the Seagulls and said that having an NRL team in Central Queensland would provide the younger generation with something to strive for.

"We do have the talent, that's for sure, but it's how that talent is nurtured," he said.

"Having a professional club will bring the coaching quality up in the region and in turn improve the players."

Larson said many players from the region have had to give up jobs or family life to get to the next level.

"They've had to make sacrifices to go where the professional teams and better quality coaching is," he said.

He believes that there are enough passionate rugby league supporters in Central Queensland to support the bid. "We're in good hands with Dennis Keeffe and Geoff Murphy. They're passionate about it," he said.

"It's long overdue in the area."
