QLD telegraph - Capricornia edition (a new paper here) headline today front cover "Storm Warning - Murphy Moves to Bring NRL game to Rocky Next Season"

Exclusive by Darryn Nufer

Mackay has ha its turn and now Geoff Murphy is trying to bring an NRL match to Rockhampton as early as next season.
The Queensland Telegraph can today reveal exclusively that the high-profile businessman made an initial approach to the Melbourne Storm during last Sunday's NRL match against the Bulldogs. His offer centres around the Storm bringing one of its home games to Rockhampton 2013.

That's the front cover...

The full story basically goes on to say it would be potentially at the Rockhampton showgrounds, turning it into a "one game stadium" in less than two months. Estimate cost at 50-60k through sponsorship just for temp seating (other costs to be quantified).

The bid will fly down to Melbourne for further discussions. Craig Bellamy is also keen for it to happen.

Get sick and tired of people saying that CQ doesn't have the numbers as the big cities do or that it will destabilise the Cowboys... we don't care about the Cowboys much in CQ...moreso we just want our own team (and watch the other teams we support and love). I see more Titans supporters around here as a way of rebelling against the "norm" being the Broncos and Cowboys...do you know that Best and Less does not even bother selling Titans merchandise in CQ? ..only the Broncos and Cowboys. Maybe they are scared of all their sales going towards the Titans. Isn't the Titans a Qld team too? Or are they just south of Coolongatta as far as this CQ based store seems to think. Unbelievable!!!

The Cowboys was more in relation to the stadium situation rather than any loss of fans or corproates I think. TBH of all the bids you have the smallest population if you discount the 500km radius population and bring it back to a 2hr drive.

TOMORROW night's television viewing will be a sure bet for about three-quarters of Central Queenslanders as New South Wales and Queensland go head-to-head in the State of Origin decider.
While it is not sure who will win the game, there is a certainty about how much Central Queenslanders love their rugby league.
A report prepared for the Central Queensland NRL Bid shows 82.5% of available televisions in Central Queensland were switched on to watch Game 2 of the State of Origin last year - meaning a television audience of hundreds of thousands.
The report also showed Central Queenslanders were more into rugby league than anywhere else in the world.
CQ NRL Bid chief executive officer Denis Keeffe said it was indicative of the NRL support in the region.
"It really does amaze the Nine network and anyone that has something to do with NRL," he said.
"One of the reasons I came here was this is an avid NRL country.
"It's the statistics that prove this (bid) a compelling argument. We consume this product called NRL more than anywhere else in the world but we don't have an NRL team from Sunshine Coast to Mackay."
Mr Keeffe said in comparison to other bid areas, the same State of Origin game attracted only 33,000 viewers in Perth.
"It was beaten by re-runs of Gilligan's Island," he said.

Kick-off is at 7.45pm at Suncorp Stadium, to be aired on WIN TV

Seriously..........25 dedicated staff thats over $2,000,000 of staff?????. When I followed the tweet you now claim the population of CQ is 700,000......as I said I used to like this bid but it seems since with the numbers you are tossing out you have employed the Bomber's PR team!!

Not my dev numbers. but it is hardly an exaggeration with the proposals going to the NRL. I know the CEO and various others (at least in the media) have said the grassroots proposal involves every element possible and of course they will have to show the ALRC how and where the funds are being drawn from.

By the way, just asked and the bid says "14 fulltime staff and 11 trainees (one for each dev officer)" so it would be more 800k+ for the FT staff (based on a quick look at QRL salary figure).

lol, no way in the world they are going to admit two teams from Q'land at the same time. GC still needs another 10 years to stabilise and establish, will be Brisbane & Perth.

How are the two WA bids cannabilising themselves? People on the East coast have no fricking idea what is happening in the rest of the country! Sage doesn't even have a bid.

No the East Coast is HALF the country popualtion wise and a fraction of it in land mass! Vic, SA, WA, NT, Tas are not the East coast and last time I looked were part of Australia!

North of Gympie is also almost a "different part of the world" (compared to Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne)

East Coast includes Vic just fyi.

More people live in QLD alone than in WA, SA and NT combined, and both NSW and Vic are larger still. The East coast really is the country and all the 'WA is just as important' rhetoric is a bit silly imo.

I've never heard anyone lump Victoria in to the east coast. I,ve heard the east coast - q'land and nsw and the southern states Vic and sa and the centre nt and the west wa. Melbourne is no where near the fricking east coast.

Not that it matters, fact is east coasters that claim to be rl experts are frisking clueless about stuff outside nsw, in fact it's not even east coasters, it's sydney so called experts. Watching the roast it is clear they have no idea what is happening in wa or q'land!
