Why we still hate Union

"With the Rugby World Cup coming up, you've got to expect a bit of niggle between the codes. But in the tropical idyll of New Caledonia? 'There is only one rugby union team in New Caledonia and they book the ground out so we can't play on it - even though they have no one to play against,' said New Caledonia rugby league CEO Pierre Vandome. 'We have had to move the grand final but this weekend, I cannot accept this. We are going to show up and we are going to play.'"

i wish we could do something

we should ban union in australia

That would make us as bad as them. (remember France)

We must defeat them with honour.

Our mere existence after 100 years of persecution fills me with confidence that we can go forth and defeat our bourgeoisie foe.

Seems other Dragons fans don't agree with you - there were a lot of them in the Sharks Leagues club on Saturday just prior to the Sharks-Dragons game getting excited about the Bledisloe.

I got rather excited about it myself, every time NZ scored I punched the air and yelled 'get that up ya O'Neil!'

Here's a post I found on a rugby forum, where they have a thread devoted to the league vs. union debate. I paste it here for a laugh - I'd like to see Gav's reaction if he reads this:

Its quite simple. League in England is played by northerners. It is a well known fact that it is grim up north. It is like a timewarp, taking you back to the 1950's. Bit like going to NZ. Kids up to the age of twenty still wear shorts and flat caps. They say things like 'ee by gum' and it rains all the time. They all race pigeons and own a whippit. As a result it is a strange place to visit, but only under duress. League is not better than Union, that is a myth purpetuated by these Northerners and mainly Australians, who lets face it are all a bit bonkers in any case. Due to a national lack of any intelligence in Australia they play a lot of it, there too. They play aussie rules as well, which just proves my point.

If it was so great, why are all be best players switching to Union.

You post it as a joke Steve but it does reveal the way the bourgeoisie look down on the working man.

Never the less we shall overcome.

Since 1895 they have tried to kill us yet we still stand unbowed and unbroken.

hahaha

i laugh at rugby union

they think they are so smart

yet they can only come up with a game which is as boring as hell, as slow as matt dunning and as overhyped as the easter show

Ee bah gum! We dispensed with the flat caps after 1979, and where's the ferret? Every self respecting northerner owns a ferret.

Obviously posted by some dormitary ensconced twirp called Jeremy, Julian or Ed who's never ventured north of the Home Counties (Except for the annual Grousepants on Cockhill) or Glaawster. Now there's a strange place!

HEY Guys.......I noticed u got this great thread Bagging rugby..........AMEN for that! I cant stand the game either. It's BORING, its NEGATIVE(tactically), and its played by 2 types of people.......the people who couldnt crack it in league so they took the softer option and then the people who played league but took the money to play in the RWC later this yr.

Not to mention i cant stand that O'Neill guy, geeez he gets on my nerves......he's a big yuppy SH!T who wipes his crack with nrl jerseys supplied by former nrl players, cuz he's too tight to buy his own toliet paper!!!!

the only kick and clap i used to watch was the bloodyslow cup, cause lets face it we all like to beat nz,but since o'niel has continually put league down he made me decide to not even watch that, and as an aussie i was embarressed to say i was happy 2 see the wannabees get beat.i've never been 2 see a game of kick and clap cause if i want to see girls running around with a ball i'll go and watch netball.
