Widdop seeks release

What you seem to be missing (and I can't fathom how with all of the posts on the subject) is that the discussion wasn't with a friend, but with a club official. Now you don't discuss your future with the IT Manager or the Marketing Team, you discuss it with people who actually have some influence in this area. Now that official, has then gone and as you say 'confided' in a friend, who has then spread the word. Now as a senior official of the club, it is their responsibility to maintain that confidentiality. They obviously didn't. And as I have already stated, a release or an end date were not specifically discussed and Gareth was surprised as everyone else that immediate requests for release were being reported in the papers (you might remember this from one of my first posts and it has been reiterated in subsequent posts). It could only have originated from one source. Obviously all of this is difficult for you grasp or you just flat out disagree with what I am saying. I'm just as pro-club as anyone on here so if you are familiar with my posts, you would know that I rarely bag the club. Hell, I'm even agreeing with and liking OTs posts, so something is definitely different about this situation.

I guess you have a different view on what is acceptable and what isn't, but to me, this is a breach of trust and as a supposedly professional outfit it shows a lack of credibility and really poor judgement - not just by the official, but by the club as a whole. You keep going on about his role in the team - what about the official? Because he isn't a player he gets off scott free without any consequence and all the blame gets placed on the player? To me, it's obvious they were willing to let Gareth take the rap to ensure their blunder wasn't exposed. Now somehow to you, that's acceptable. I disagree.

Well I doubt Widdop spoke with a Board Member and doubt Johnston or Coyne would have leaked the conversation so my guess is that Millward was the man who shared the details with Mary and/or his coaching staff.

Anyone else have an idea on who might have leaked this information.

Amazing that you put Mc Gregor & the management staff on a pedestal as to their honesty and integrity in this situation
The simple fact is the way the club has handled all of this reaks of amateurism of the highest order
You people make out that Widdop leaked the contents of his meeting with the club.
FMD the club made the leak which has been misconstrued and they left Widdop to face the press
Any professional outfit would have covered up on the ropes and made sure the player had no time in front of the press trying to defend something that was supposedly private.
Not our mob they took a cheap body shot by dropping their guard and then got knocked out straight after maybe Choc was advising them how to handle it.

Stop talking nonsense, no one has said McGregor or whoever leaked displayed integrity but thats typical OT throw in a totally false barb. In fact I have already said I think that both sides of this are at fault.

No one has said Widdop leaked the contents of the meeting, another false statement but that wont stop you making it (and what was that about integrity). What we have said is that Widdop has stated on a number of occasions previously he wanted to go to ESL, this was no secret.

Still waiting for you to share the story behind the story.

You have nailed it I can tell you that Mary was not the leak it came from management.
I'm sorry I can't say more but hope the club has the balls to tell the truth and name and shame the guy.
As you say it was said in confidence and sould never had made it to the media.

What has he nailed, a bunch of false statements and innuendo.

If you are so knowledgeable Samy speak up. And regardless of it being leaked, its minor, it was already common knowledge. Tell us the whole story Samy or dont say anything.

Incorrect on all counts.

He is on the money, and last I checked this is a forum where people can speak up whether or not you tell them to. Enjoy the weekend.

What a load of rubbish, he has made a number of false statements, go back and have a look. And you are right people can voice their opinions here and that is exactly what I want Samy to do. Speak up and tell us what actually happened.

Its amazing how many people have inside information about this so called "private" conversation from their own sources. They didn't all originate from the "leak" why not crucify these other "leaks" as well.

No mate I wont go back and review a posters history.

You are hell bent on wanting people to disclose something that they are are either not willing to do, or have made assurances that they wont. I also fall in the later category, as I clearly stated when the story hit.

I fully understand people have a right to reach their own judgements and be sceptical.. I stand behind my posts on this matter.

If the club and Widdop says Widdop didn't ask for a release then ask yourself what did he ask for?
Widdop has every right to be aggrieved so why escalate the situation by a whole host of other leaks?
Maybe you don't understand what a leak is, well it's not the one that runs down your trouser leg.
Re your allegations against me saying I made false statements I suggest you go back and read my posts and try your hardest to comprehend what I said and then get back to me.

Gareth Widdop expects St George Illawarra’s heartbreaking NRL finals exit to fuel their2019 campaign but conceded they had to address their concerning trend of post-Origin fade-outs.

After guaranteeing he would remain in Dragons colours for 2019 and not seek an immediate release to return home to England,Widdop has turned his attention to the upcoming NRL season and his battle to recover from a shoulder reconstruction.

The Dragons were bundled out in the second week of the finals at the hands of South Sydney this year after being sunk by twoAdam Reynolds field goals in final three minutes of regulation.

Round 1

'Totally not the case'

And while Paul McGregor’s side did surge late to almost win through to the grand final qualifier, in the wash up they wereundoubtedly cruelled by their lacklustre form in the final third of the regular season.

From round 17 onwards, they lost six of nine games, slumping from top spot to seventh.

In 2017 (3-6), 2016 (2-7) and 2015 (4-6), they also ended the regular season in similarly poor fashion.

“You look at the top teams, they’re the most consistent teams,” Widdop said.

“That’s what our team is aiming for. It’s good we haven’t had too much player movement.

“We lost Leeson (Ah Mau) but bring in Korbin (Sims). We’ve got a great roster here.” Widdop said he hoped the way in whichthey exited the finals would fuel their desire for next year.

“We got so close that last game there against Souths,” he said.

“It was very pleasing last year but still disappointing. We had a really good start to the year and a bit of a drop off before finding some form in the back end of the year.

“Hopefully the boys will have the hunger from knowing what it’s like to play finals because a lot of them haven’t played finalsbefore.”

Widdop underwent surgery after suffering a shoulder dislocation against Parramatta in round 22 before re-aggravatingthe injury in week one of the finals against Brisbane.

He has not yet returned to contact work but is confident of being ready for round one against North Queensland in Townsville.

“I’m slowly getting back into it so I’m doing all the running and things like that,” Widdop said.

“It’s just a matter of progression, which is up to the performance staff.”
