You pair of nuffies seem to think at the time he signed his contract extension he did so in full knowledge that he was going to break it and that is clearly not the case
He signed his contract with the intent of being here for the entire period but something has interceded and altered that.
Situations alter in life and when they do you need to have the opportunity to alter it.
FMD imagine if everyone stayed in bad marriages / relationships and divorce wasn’t allowed what a shit works it would be.
You guys can’t get past your dislike for him as a player to understand something has altered in his life.
Since when do we as supporters get to dish on people who have make tough decisions in their own private lives?
Take your views and have a talk with the playing group but book yourself an ambulance before you do because it is obvious who the playing group is standing by and if fat isn’t good enough for you then there is no hope for you.

You need to get over the name calling, like a little kid, it doesn't make your arguments any more or less correct.

How do you know he intended to stay the whole four years when he signed the contract? You dont know and I dont know, so stop making statements as if they are facts when they are nothing more than your speculation.

What has altered in his life? The fact Leeds want to give him the highest paid contract in ESL history from 2020? I understand something has changed, do you really think this has happened without discussions taking place overseas already?

What tough decision in his private life has he made that anyone has dished out on him for, as supporters his wanting out of his contract is a decision that affects us and as such we have opinions.

Lastly, popularity within a playing group means squat when it comes to whether someone is or isnt a good human being.

Have you stoped to think that others might know something if the truth of the situation and are not willing to break the trust placed in them?
The breaking of trust by the club is exactly how this got to where it is but others are not willing to go down that same path out of respect for the person involved.
Integrity by some dishonour by others and you can’t see the forest for the trees and just continue down the low road of dishing out.
Hopefully it all comes out and best you learn how to eat crow in the meantime.

At this stage Widdop has not broken his contract.
There is only assumption that he wont he here next year as he has only stated definitely 2019. He hasn't stated he is leaving or requested a release at the end of next season.
If may or may not happen and people will look pretty silly if he does play on with us in 2020.
However, i must admit the signs are not encouraging.
The main point is that in his video and the preceeding video by Millward, both strongly pointed to the "timing" if it were to happen, meaning a more than suitable replacement is found and agreed to terms with us.
We may never know the real reasons why this has suddenly surfaced, by im guessing his shoulder (and i gave repeated this many times) isnt going to survive 3 more years at NRL intensity, add to that his dream of playing in the ESL, it now becomes a "timing" issue as i have mentioned above. Lets be honest ESL is almost touch footy level in the way they play and in particular tackle. You just need to take a look at who is still running around in ESL to guage its intensity.
Again, Widdop has not stated he wont be here after 2019, and maybe, just maybe 2019 will he a litmus test on his injuries.
I mean would you rather keep a broken hack for 3 more years paying him $1m per year to play poorly just to honour his contract, or would you expect him to do the right right thing and step aside so that the team can flourish and recruit someone who can drive the team forward?
I know what my answer would be if I were the captain of my team.

So in your opinion the trust the club put into Widdop by signing him to a four year multi million dollar contract and making him captain hasn't been breached?
No. Widdop hasn't deceived the club at all, to pretend circumstances can't change even in a contract setting is naive

Do you think that your contractual obligations dont count if you have "personal reasons" for not honouring them, especially when those reasons are just ambition?
Who's saying they don't count? If someone has a personal reason for anything relating to a contact, they are well within their right to request a release from it for the right reasons. It's a 2 way street and if 2 parties are happy, that's all that matters.

Maybe if the club knew he wouldn't stay for four years they would not have resigned him, maybe they would have looked for someone else and taken a different direction.
Completely irrelevant, but I'll bite: Widdop was among the fittest properties in the game, a 2 year contract would have surely still been offered by the club.

What has the greater ramifications your chief playmaker, captain, most senior player walking out on his contract early or someone spreading the "earth shattering" news he wants to play in the ESL, as he himself has stated?
I feel that recent examples of contract dodging In the NRL has made you overly sensitive to this. There is nothing inherently wrong with requesting a release (which I'll remind you Widdop hasn't even done yet) if it's reasonable and better for all parties. What's a problem is a recent trend of player managers using clubs and stomping their feet to get a release, with no respect for the club.

The Widdop situation is the ideal way to handle it. Plenty of heads up, he obviously doesn't want to leave immediately, respectful to fans and fellow players, and more than enough time for the club to plan for the future.

What a load of fluff.

If you want to know what I really think about this situation is that both the club and Widdop are at fault. Does he have a valid reason for wanting to leave, maybe. But then again its secret and you wont tell.

The fact is Widdop has expressed a desire to go to ESL before his contract term ends. Whether I like it or not is irrelevant, what I am interested in is how does the club strategically handle this (and I dont care about petty respect issues). If, Widdop leaves, the club is still there and what would be the best way to utilise his contract money going forward.

Well done Gladiator
Those that just died saluted you
McGregor made him captain in 2016 after Ben Creagh got injured.
He's Mary's captain and as I stated above it wasn't a very popular decision from what I have heard.

Amazing that you put Mc Gregor & the management staff on a pedestal as to their honesty and integrity in this situation
The simple fact is the way the club has handled all of this reaks of amateurism of the highest order
You people make out that Widdop leaked the contents of his meeting with the club.
FMD the club made the leak which has been misconstrued and they left Widdop to face the press
Any professional outfit would have covered up on the ropes and made sure the player had no time in front of the press trying to defend something that was supposedly private.
Not our mob they took a cheap body shot by dropping their guard and then got knocked out straight after maybe Choc was advising them how to handle it.
