Widdop seeks release

His family live in Australia as does his wife’s family. There’s nothing to be homesick for in England

This is why I don’t believe it’s anything more than a made up story.
I get periods of incredible homesickness but I gave up a life and a career as a 31 year old, I have something to go back to if I really decided I couldn’t stick it out here anymore.
Widdop was still a kid his life and those of any of his friends will have changed so much he can’t ever go back to that even if he wanted to.

If the reports are accurate, I get the feeling that there is something else going on (family situation in UK). I can understand why this (if true hasn’t been made public). If this is the case, no problems. Best wishes Gaz.

Family comes first mate 100%.

Do these guys punished at all financially when they break contracts?
I mean, when I break my lease I lose my bond, that kind of thing.

Think you’ll find if it’s mutual consent, no they dont. That’s why they have to ‘request’ a release rather than just leaving - in which case they would get financially impacted.

Difference is when you break your lease normally the landlord isn’t going to agree - hence being charged your rent until they find someone else.

If I believed in conspiracy theories I think this would be more than possible
The club new about Widdop’s wishes for some time and kept it hush hush
The potential Hayne acquisition was to cover the loss of Widdop
Hayne was never destined for centre, fb or wing he was going to be the 5/8 and Dufty was always going to be the FB
If the Hayne deal came off then the club would have made the announcement of “sad to see Gareth go but the Hayne plane had landed so all good”
While all this was in play trading Mann was also an ongoing option.
The trouble is the Hayne plane crashed and burned and now the club has no option but to release the news re Widdop.
I suspect the club sanctioned Widdop leaving under the above scenario but is now hedging due to Hayne’s situation.
If any of this is correct then the relationship will be toxic and we would still be best to let Gareth go.
The notion that Widdop just dropped this in the clubs lap yesterday is laughable they gave known for some time IMO
