Will 2014 be any better?

Did anyone happen to unfortunately watch Richards defensive effort against Uate. He was brushed off several times, will fit like a glove with the other finger tackling West Tigers. Not good enough!

I received criticisms when i mentioned how he had a crap first half in the SL GF & was owned by Monaghan. Pat only came good when Monaghan was stretchered off.

It's going to be a long year and I doubt Potter will last beyond June. As bad as Benchie went last year he still was the man most likely to create something. The likes of Simona and Nofo will be second season players and now be on the radar of most teams. Our recruiting once again can only be classed as average. Without a lot of luck,it's going to be another season without much joy. Okay the blow outs may improve but I can't see us winning many more games.

Most of the teams around us have built up their rosters and will be much harder and not many of the better teams have gone backwards in playing strength.Long year in my books

Seven wins last year.
Ten wins unfortunately would be a successful season for us.
Recruiting not good enough and still got Sheens' deadweight around.
A big run in the player market at end of year is our ticket to success to match our excellent batch of juniors.
Two or three big names are a must.

Benji was useless 95% of the season. Simona was more likely to create something. Brooks will give us some direction. He wont save the world overnight but a real halfback for the first time since 2006 is exciting. Well worth seeing the back of an uninterested overpaid underperforming egotistical Benji Marshall.

I just hope people don't misrepresent Marshall in the tough times ahead. Its easy to remember how good he was (2010 and before) and forget how little he offered at the end of his tenure. Brooks is a young kid with a lot of pressure so I hope when we go through our losing streaks people don't call for his head and scream for the memory of a player long gone.

It'll happen, but as we saw in his debut, he's worth hanging onto. We'll be building the club around him for the next decade.

No doubt Brooks will be a class player, but he has a massive couple of years in front of him. Starting off your career in a side that is off the pace and playing in the spine is a massive ask.

Just hope he can stays fit and keep his head up even after a few howlers, because they are going to be the odd shocker.

Still as a tigers fan we have been screaming out for one since Scott Prince and before the JV it was Gary Freeman (on the Balmain side). So in nearly 35 years we have only been able to come up with two decent no7s, so its about time we found a good one

I think potter will go into the trials with an open mind. Pretty confident all the guys in contention will get a good run and the side will be picked on form. If brooks doesn't stand up in the trials wouldn't be surprised if he misses a spot early on, wouldn't be the end of the world either.

Given that Brooks will be doing all the organising, in theory Moltzen could compliment him well as a running 5/8. Whether that translates to the field is another matter.

It would be very funny if Moses had a massive growth spurt and suddenly had the size to be in the starting 17. Would be even more hilarious if Brooks and Moses played the whole season together hahaha.

What would we do with Moltz and Anasta? who knows...

From what I saw of Anasta last year Moltzen should get a start in front of him. Moltzen actually started the season well before injury. I haven't seen enough of Austin to have an opinion

Siro is obviously not being considered at 6. All the talk and he doesn't feature so he must be bulking up and will be in the back row.

Just back onto the WT website article Payten makes the comment Brooks will have some problems as we don't have a 'monster pack'. They (coaching staff) can see the problem but haven't really done enough to address it in my opinion.

There are scary similarities between this forum and the Dragons forum at the moment. Two sets of supporters that desperately want it to be better than last year. Guys that are still concerned with the roster and have doubts over the coach. Neither team has signed the forward muscle they needed.

I hope you guys go well next year. But what I will say, and please don't be offended, is this. If Anasta is in your starting side you have no hope. Having had to watch a season with Nathan Fien calling the shots at the Dragons, the last thing you want is a washed up, useless merkin stealing minutes from somebody whose career is on the way up.

Talk of "experience" and "knowledge" and "defence" is complete crap. Both players were found wanting repeatedly this year because they simply aren't good enough. Piss Anasta off and go with someone else. Brooks is a star but Anasta will genius his growth. Sironen is destined for the back row but he is a far, far better choice at five eight.

I don't see the coaching staff being able to do much more. They cut loose some dead weight but real buying power comes next year.

Coincidentally, here is Robbie Farah discussing this issue in today's SMH.

Robbie Farah: Tigers must keep cool on inevitable roller-coaster

Michael Carayannis
Published: November 9, 2013 - 3:00AM

Limerick: Robbie Farah has called for patience as he looks to improve the culture at the Wests Tigers and help mould the club's youngsters as they prepare to lead a revamped team.

Although Farah, speaking before Australia's World Cup game against Ireland, does not believe the club's culture needs to be ''reshaped'', he is under no illusion that recent struggles have forced change.

Gone from the Tigers are club mainstays including Tim Sheens, Benji Marshall, Beau Ryan and Chris Heighington and Farah, as captain, finds himself leading a new breed at the club but knows success won't be immediate.

''I think next year is still going to be a bit of a rollercoaster with all the young players we have in our squad,'' Farah said. ''When you've got so many kids in the side, it's only natural that you're going to go through waves of form as they are learning their trade. I stayed at the club because I knew the wave of talent, and the batch of kids we've got coming through, and I'm excited to not only be part of it but shape them as players, being a senior player at the club.''

When Mick Potter replaced Sheens at the end of last year, it was after the Tigers missed the finals. They won just seven games this year - four less than in Sheens' final year - and Potter is already under pressure as he heads into the final year of a two-year deal.

''If we don't start the season well, I've got no doubt that there will be pressure,'' Farah said.

''It's only natural. Pressure comes from the media, fans, everyone. As players, we need to take ownership of that too and make sure we're winning footy games to help relieve that pressure on the coach. Hopefully we can start with a clean slate. Last year has been wiped. It was a difficult year for everybody.

''I don't want to look back at what happened last year with players and pressure on the coach. There is going to be times when we're not playing at our best and not in the best of form but we need patience. A few wins early in the season will help ease pressure not just on the coach but on everybody. We copped a lot of flack as a club in the past 18 months and the only way to silence the critics is to win.''

When Farah returns to the Tigers in January, he will prepare for a season without Marshall for the first time in his career. He said he doesn't know what it will be like to play without his long-term teammate but close mates relocating has been all too familiar for Farah in recent years.

He remains close with Sheens and was excited to reunite with his former mentor in Britain. The pair remain in contact, although Farah wouldn't say it was regular.

''I've got the upmost respect for Tim,'' Farah said. ''He coached me for 10 years. He is the smartest footy coach I have ever met. I'm indebted to Tim for everything he has given me: my first game in first grade, captaincy, rep jumpers. There is no bad blood between me and Sheensy and, coming into here, it hasn't been awkward at all. We've just picked up where the relationship left off at club level.

''I've spoken to him a couple of times. He was great for me and I will never forget how he was with me and my family in what was a very difficult time for me last year.''

Farah will play three consecutive Tests for the first time in his career against Ireland despite being a regular in Kangaroos squads since making his Test debut in 2009. He remains the back-up hooker to Cameron Smith but looks to have edged out Daly Cherry-Evans for the bench utility position.

Nothings changed that much from the beginning of last year to make me change my mind that Potters 2nd year would be a finals contention year...bar the emergance of brooks and hopefully Patterson is a good signing...the rest im not so sure on.
Potter may not get the time he needs...which would be a shame as it'd set us back a few more pegs and the wait to where we wanna be will be even longer

I am hoping Taupau makes an impact, Simona and Nofo were outstanding last year and Brooks may give us some direction. If Keith can give us most of the season and Woods is fit, I think we can do better than last year.
