Man got to laugh at all the newcastle supporters who are bagging the cowboys in this thread, Willie Mason, the most desperate person in the NRL to find a club this season had to choose between "Cowboys for the spoon" or "Newcastle are top four material" as newcastle supporters are putting it and yet he still chose the cowboys... WAKE UP, YOUR CLUB IS SH*T AND NO ONE WANTS TO PLAY FOR YOUR CLUB.

Also, party in the off-season?

That is funny, because I clearly remember that Sargent got sacked the week after you hosted us.

Did you wait until after that game to sack him?

It was mid season 2006(well with about 6 rounds to go), he was tested after a home game at training the next day and then he was kicked out.

Funnily enough it was about a week or so after he came out in the press and said that Billy J trains him "too hard" and he needs a break.

I don't want to get caught up in this BS pissing contest about whose club is better, etc. but Its a bit rich Newcastle fans MY club is indisciplined and badly behaved!

Be like a Manly fan from the 80's saying that a player on went to Wests for the "money"!

Funny how is career went nowhere after that, pity though cause we have missed that style of forward ever since.

:lol: oh ok, well in that case the Cowboys will win the grand final 50 - 0. why??? Because we will.

Tense not your strong point I see.

Just like boxing isn't your namesake's strong point.

Or playing footy for that matter.

It is quite obvious why Willie went to the cows.

"Premierships" isn't part of it.

You are however free to believe whatever makes you sleep better at night.

Oh good lord some Newcastle fans are pathetic, your club isn't as good as you think it is.
At least Cows fans have the realism to know our club's been sh*te for a while, Newcastle is not top 4 material, get the f**k real!

And Mason has obviously seen something, bit rich saying NQ is the 'frat' of the NRL when Newcastle has had two of the most controversial stories about drug dealers/takers in RL.
Mind you there are the blue and red glasses I suppose!

before smithgate last year we certainly were. much closer than your rabble. how often does a club sack it's coach mid-season and still make the finals, anyway?

if you honestly believe mason went to your club because he thought he had a better shot at a premiership then either you're deluded or he is. potentially both.

A nuisance he can probably be, and I wouldn't of wanted him at Souths, but this will prove to be the best signing of the season given his price.

Like most clubs, it's a minority on here that give a club a bad name. Not all Newcastle fans should be painted with the same brush ;-)

I can understand the appeal of joining North Queensland as opposed to Newcastle based on wanting to be succesful.

With Neil Henry at the helm along with the likes of Thurston, Scott, Bowen, Payne and O'Donnell not to mention some impressive up and comers, North Queensland are a better chance at this stage than Newcastle who line up as a much bigger gamble.

They have managed to achieve 15th and 12th in the last 2 years with these guys. How does that make them a better chance than a team that finished 7th with a massive upheaval towards the end of the season last year?

The Knights have the runs on the board. The Cowboys give up whenever one of their supposed stars get injured. The Cowboys have absolutely no chance of making the 8 this year, let alone winning a premiership. Getting Willie up there does not change the fact they have no heart or backbone.

What Willie's choice comes down to is that he doesn't want the rules that go along with being damaged goods (or the perception of being damaged goods). He could have had a decent shot of being in a top 4 team at Newcastle, but wimped out and took the year off at Townsville.

Those players weren't there for the entire season. Hell not even their coach or fitness coach were there for periods last season.

How does that make them a better chance than a team that finished 7th with a massive upheaval towards the end of the season last year?

It doesn't, the new guys coming through along with the promise of both relatively new coach and fitness coach remaining focussed on what's at hand as opposed to some of the other attrocities that have occured to the Cowboys over the last two seasons will.

That, and Newcastle lost one of their most important pieces to last season, coach Brian Smith. Rick Stone is an unknown quantity.

The Knights have the runs on the board. The Cowboys give up whenever one of their supposed stars get injured.

Didn't happen to catch 2007 then did you when they managed to achieve their highest finish on the ladder after the season proper without the likes of Scott, O'Donnell and hell most of their forward pack.

The Cowboys have absolutely no chance of making the 8 this year, let alone winning a premiership.

You'd be foolish to discount the Cowboys chances in 2010 especially with Thurston around.

Getting Willie up there does not change the fact they have no heart or backbone.

*groan* and I expect you to tell me Newcastle has this in droves?

He could have had a decent shot of being in a top 4 team at Newcastle, but wimped out and took the year off at Townsville.

Maybe in the local Newcastle competition, I wouldn't be so confident about the Knights chances at the top four this season.

I found it funny you said mid-season when Stone only took over in Round 23. He had 4 matches to get the Knights into the finals and the wins his team claimed were against injury riddled sides.

With that said, the Knights certainly belonged there. Smith had them playing to the best of their ability week in, week out, even with his at times, puzzling selections.
