Hold on, I heard a report this morning on the 2WS sports show saying that he was up at a golf day last weekend and said he was going to the roosters

It's obviously Willie stirring things up. My prediction? He'll stay at the dogs

If I'm not mistaken Mason was a member of the Kangaroos that thought Prague was boring cause it had no TAB

LOL, I think that was Rooney

Mason said that the Tr-Nations Tour was like a Contiki Tour - getting pissed & getting on & off buses...

Well, this negotiating tactic worked for Andrew Johns.

I expect to see it every year now.

Regardless of what happens, or why, I've lost what little respect I had for Mason.

Union does everything it can to put our game down while stealing from it, and here Mason is adding support for it. Go and get stuffed.

"International game" my arse. Didn't the Wallabies and Kangaroos play games in the same amount of countries last year?

Ever notice that articles about Union are only ever about current or former League players? FFS, make your own superstars instead of poaching ours...

I'm in the US at the moment and even here I am seeing Union on the tele.

The English team is being used in high profile ads as well.

You can scoff all you like but Union does have it all over League in terms of international status, though I can't for the life of me see why.

I think so KFC, it was on a couple of times in bars.

The English team was promoting a credit card or something similar. HAd them playing the game and some singer took the ball from standoff.

Didn't pay much attention, I find watching even a little of that game can send me to sleep, though it really did surprise me to see they have enough of a presence to be used in ads in Primetime, and it wasn't on a sports chanel either, it was during something like Survivor.

Things got so bad for me waiting for the season to start, I watched the Reds play Auckland in Super 12.

Not bad but not going to get me back anytime soon. Dunno who the dill was that couldn't kick the ball 10m in the match turning play. Sort of Clayton's Footy, the footy you have when you can't have real footy.

Two things from this.

1. Masons an idiot. I dont think he can go a month off a media ban without saying something dumb. He has had a good 18 months though. I have to say I dont think these players realise how this wh*ring themselves off REALLY hurts their marketability to fans.

2. League MUST realise that the union game is much bigger and provides many more oppertunities world wide. Thats why the games administrators need to stand up and get Test football sorted.

Heck, I think that the ARL should offer union test teams money to play League games against them. Imagine the Australian Kangaroo's vs the South African union side in a game of League.

I heard mason was going to soccer #-o

As for the international side of league, when it happens club coaches complain about their players missing training etc.....

When superleague did the world club challenge which resulted in travel the cynics said it was just cos the players got promised to be taken o/s.

yawnion will continue to have a bigger internatiopnal profile unless club coaches stop whinging and put the game first instead of their own needs.

But it is believed the Roosters are prepared to offload three players to accommodate Mason, who could command about $400,000 a season on the open market.

One player, veteran lock Luke Ricketson, is expected to retire at the end of this season.

While Mason has not ruled out staying at Belmore, privately he has told friends of his desire to play for the Roosters.

He socialises with Roosters players and has forged strong ties with club coaching director Phil Gould, who backed Mason during a series of traumatic ordeals last season.

Mason also remembers the representative lifeline he received last year from Roosters coach Ricky Stuart, who named him in the Country Origin side as Mason pondered defecting to rugby.

Mason may find that his quest to bump up his league asking price has hit an obstacle.

Jones cold on Mason switch
By Cameron Bell
March 6, 2005

WALLABY coach Eddie Jones said last night Willie Mason would have to start playing club rugby "next weekend" if he was serious about switching codes.

Yesterday, Mason said he was keen to go to rugby once his contract with the Bulldogs expired in October.

But Jones virtually curtailed those plans, saying: "At the moment, we just aren't interested.

"It would be incredibly difficult for Mason to make the switch, especially if he had his sights set on being in the Wallabies' 2007 World Cup plans.

"He'd almost have to start playing now if he was serious about it.

"He'd need to play a season of club rugby and a season of Super 12 before he could be considered for the Wallabies.

"That way, we'd not only find out how he would perform but also find out how fair dinkum he was about making the switch."

Jones said he was happy to develop players genuinely interested in the game.

"Our focus is on the guys we currently have and the development of younger players," he said.

"It's not in the pursuit of league players who may or may not be generally interested in making a switch.

"Look, obviously Willie Mason is a very good footballer and a gifted athlete but there's no guarantee he would be an instant success in our game."

Jones also said Mason's past indiscretions may be taken into account when considering offering him a contract - despite the fact the Bulldogs forward has made a genuine effort to clean up his off-field image.

"When you sign a player, you have to take everything into consideration," Jones said.
