Had a bottle of Wolf Blass red label cab merlot, airated and in decanter. Missed the usual bottle with mrs Johns on the deck on a balmy Northern NSW deck under a poincianna on Friday night. So subsequently moved to Sat evening, Enjoyable, about $14 from memory, not bad. great quaffer.

$14, poor bugger. At Palm Beach they're only $9.99, excluding mates rates...

Did the Wolf Blass tasting event in Brisbane this year. Their wines have improved drastically. Ones to look out for are:

- Red Label Shiraz Cabernet
- Yellow Label Cabernet Sauvingnon
- Gold Label Pinot Noir Chardonnay
- Platinum Label Shiraz

(Grey Label + Black Label were very ordinary this year).

Meh what's $5 between mates. Although i cannot verify the accuracy of the quoted price, 3 bottles of wine will do that.

Good night champ, off for an early night ;-)

Cracked open a bottle of port from a local winery at Mount Tambourine (Cedar Creek Winery), and the only thing I can say about it is that it's the worst port I have ever had! Horrifically bitter, no fruit sweetness at all. $20 for 375mL of a 1997 vintage port. Waste of money.

Might move on to the Mount Tambourine Distillery Wattle Toffee Liqueur, bloody good liqueur that one!

Edit: This stuff is sex on my palate!

I thought the 09 Grey label shiraz cab was very good tbh. The Yellow chardy is a surprise packet too.

Been at a wedding where the table wine was Tyrrells Glenbawn range. I rate them as quaffers. The shiraz cab is very plummy and soft and the white must have a high percentage of verdelho as I got a lot of pineapple. Perfect wines for good conversion and pub food I thought.

I also had the chance to try the 02 Dom Perignon today and I fell in love. Honey, cinnamon, brioche, peach and a perfect acid backbone. I wish all champagne was this good! It will live longer than me and I wish I could afford it...

I wasn't that hot on the 09 Grey Label Shiraz Cab, particularly in comparison to the 08 Grey Label Cab Sauv. The Yellow + Red Labels have really improved a lot, and the Gold Label is really punching above its weight.

Swung into Eden Road wines new cellar door on the way home from Clonakilla today, and tasted the best value chardy I think I have ever tried. The Seedling Tumbarumba chardonnay, absolutely fantastic for 15 bucks...rich and well oaked, great fruit flavours and dangerously easy to drink. I bought 6 of em. The Barbera/Cabernet was excellent as well and found its way into my boot.

guys, just wondering

firstly do you have a favourite wine glass ?

secondly, do you wash it with the rest of the washing up, like oily shit and crap from your plates and pans etc. ?

I always try and wash mine separately, or at least put it in with stuff that has no oils or fats in the water, and I have a favourite wine glass, it just feels good in the hand and its not too big and bulky

wine glasses are serious stuff

I have a group of glasses I use, they're all the same. Don't really have one I pick out from the group. As for washing, I wash all my glasses before cutlery / crockery / pots + pans, so everything is clean for the glassware.

Yeah I wash them seperately. Only have one set that I use though, Burgundy style wide ones (but not too wide) that are great for red and white.

As I am only a red man, I love using Reidel "O" series glasses.

If I dont use them I have a few of the large round varieties. Similar size to below, wheel & barrow always have decent sized glasses.
