You can pick up some real gems under 15 and even under 10.

This.

A friend of a friend who works in California wine country said that it's all about the region, not the price. Right now Willamette Valley, Oregon, and Paso Robles, California, are producing outstanding reds. For whites, when I drink American I prefer Napa and Sonoma (both California).

Don't get many American wines in Aus tbh. I did have a cracker of a shiraz from Washington state at a tasting recently...Long Shadow The Sequel. Bit of a cheat though, it was made by John Duval who is very much Aussie :p

Don't mind a pinot from the North West, or a Napa cabernet, but import tax prices them out of my reach here in Aus.

Tried drinking wine, just don't have the taste for it.
Don't like alcoholic drinks with food.

had a bottle of McLaren Vale Tapestry Shiraz 2007 last night.

This one goes in the book, one of the better Shiraz that I've ever had.

Really enjoying sparkling shiraz ATM

Came across an absolute pearler Wyndham Estate Bin 555 Sprkling Shiraz. Approx $10 a bottle.

As good if not better as some $20-40 bottles (Grant Burge - Bleasedale - Balgownie Estate - Majella)

One thing I have found is let it sit in the glass (5 min) after removing it from the fridge, sparkling shiraz really improves when it warms a just a touch.

I don't mind the Wyndham, good value. On the sparkling shiraz, I tried a bottle of the new Teusner MC sparkling. Love their wines and this one was no different, an absolute ripper. Runs at about 50 bucks though

Spent the weekend in the King Valley for work...some damn good wines to be had down there

if you liked the Tesuner MC try the Barossa Valley Estate E&E Sparkling Shiraz, about the same price and gorgeous.

I have had the E&E, brilliant but I preferred the Teusner. Not that that's in any way an indictment of the BVE, which is a cracker...I just loved the Teusner stylistically (and everything he does, really)

On a side note any decent sparkling shiraz have with extremely crumbly, biting cheese and quality salami. Heaven like!!!!

Kym Teusner would say sparkling shiraz is only for breakfast....oh, to be a winemaker!

Polishing off a 2008 Langmeil Blacksmith Barossa Cabernet. The Twizz would like this one, big and fleshy with nice soft tannins...can taste the new oak maturation, even if it's only 20%, there's an awesome chocolate character and depth to it.

Pretty sure I've got a bottle of this cellared somewhere. Love Langmeil's stuff. Seriously underrated.

Not underrated by me tbh, they're fantastic. Valley Floor Shiraz is just about my favourite wine
