They were nicknamed Southern Stars, but in 2017 this name was dropped and are now known only as the Australian women's cricket team in an attempt to promote gender equality with the men, who have no nickname for their team.(Wikipedia)

Sounds like wokeism rearing its ugly head in our beloved sport. Was kept rather quiet tho. Wonder why?

Why?
Cause nobody care they dropped the name. I think people can see past the gender side of things, plus many of the women in Australian cricket now have larger public profiles than a decade or two decades ago when the Southern Stars brand would’ve been needed to promote them over netball, soccer or basketball.

Hell, Perry, Healy, Lanning are probably better known in the public than some male sportsmen. And when they refer to the Australian cricket team and they reference Starc, Healy, Smith, Haynes, Lyon or Molineux…I think most people know which Australian cricket team they are referring to.

Hopefully Phoebe Litchfield get a crack she has been talked about highly way back when she started in the WBBL at 16 years old a few years back.

Making the woman's team would be like trying to get in the squad during the golden generation of men in the early 2000s very hard.

Cant pick her in the top 4 ahead Healy, Mooney, Gardener, Perry or Grace. Im surprised Carey is in the squad, don t think she had a good BBL, maybe picked on experience, versatility and past form?,

Definitely a good experience for Phoebe even is she doesnt get a game, selectors have her in the future

We wuz robbed. One good thing came out of the game.. exciting teen rookie Phoebe Litchfield debuted. She did not get to bat tho as Mooney and McGrath dominated the batting again..
