I'll have a few here disagreeing with me, but I don't think the final ladder accurately reflects where the Knights stood when compared with the other spoon contenders. We were a better side than the Titans and the Tigers, against both sides they won 2/2 and I have no doubts they'd have beaten them any other day of the week also. Not so much we were better than them, more that both sides were a bigger rabble all season than most of what was dished up here.
The Tigers only finished above the Knights on F/A, and in this current draw system where not every team plays every other team twice, how accurately does this sum up a teams' playing ability compared to its' closest rivals? For example if you draw the Roosters, Broncos, Souths, Bulldogs, Cowboys and even the Sharks twice, chances are that your F/A will end up worse off than a side who plays 2 of those sides just once in the season.
Speaking of F/A, the Titans were a worse team than the Knights in this facet all season- if they hadn't lucked out from one of the worst (if not THE worst) 'Try' decisions all season against the Dragons last weekend after a clear knock-on in goal, todays' game against Penrith would have been virtually meaningless save for a miracle. Shit happens.
Last weekend really made a difference in the end- all three spoon contenders had home games. But while the Knights drew one of the form teams of the comp, Wests Tigers were gifted a truly awful, inept Warriors team that even todays' effort against Penrith would beat by 16 at least. Then like I said, the Titans were gifted 2 points thanks to the ineptitude of the video refs.
I've voiced my dissatisfaction of the current squad on numerous occasions and watching the last 15 minutes against Penrith today was like watching a demonstration in how not to chase a deficit. But I definitely don't think the Knights were the worst team all season. Anyway, bring on the red, blue and Brown era...
