No you're not alone. Nash/Hall hand picking their successors would be fun, at least for the nostalgia kick. Would be interesting the first few weeks as they could pick anyone.
Watched quite a few old Nitro episodes and the first 2-3 months there was maybe 5-10 minutes per show of Outsiders/nWo. Didn't really notice it back in the day as it was happening but it was a really slow and purposeful build as other angles went on around them. Kind of miss that.
Yeah, for most of 1996 they rarely had any members of the nWo work on Nitro except when they could creatively justify it by having them take over the show while half the roster was working Japan or some such.
It was smart booking on that end and it was cool how they had so many different angles taking place with all these different expiration dates. Sting in the rafters, Page being tempted by the nWo, Jarrett trying to join the Horsemen, Benoit/Sullivan etc etc.
It obviously worked a treat for them and of course the current writers could take a page out of it. But then I look back on all those old shows and remember how long the Dungeon of Doom lasted and how their program with the Horsemen endured the entire year. Subliminally whenever I hear the Dungeon of Doom theme I automatically feel like hitting fast forward.
As for a new New World Order...no thanks. Last nights reunion was sweet but it'd be better to save all that for the Network and focus on a new generation.
If they wanted to do that sort of stable, I'd be into a Paul Heyman lead stable featuring the likes of Punk and all these other independent talents out to destroy the machine and send rasslin back to the 80s.
Play on the fear of the WWE monopoly and go from there if you wanted to do an nWo type stable.
Of course to make it really work, you'd have to try and brand these other guys in their own unique way complete with licensed music and such.
