It was one of those 50-50 ones....Watching it live I thought it was a blatant pen, but when you watch the slow-mo replay the keeper does try to pull out of the challenge however in the process he still does clip Manquillo so to the letter of the law its a pen.

If it had of gone against us I wouldn't have blamed the officials either as there wasn't a lot in it.

Just glad we got the win and hopefully take that game as a big wake up call that we needed.

BR has to get his tactics right. That's 2 games in a row he's gotten it wrong. We looked a lot better when Borini came on and played alongside and just off Mario.

Stevie Nicol called it as well, why on earth didn't we tighten everything up once Mario got the goal. It was clearly one of those games where we should be happy with a 1-0 result. Someone get BR some Rafa tapes on gritty 1-0 European Cup wins.

Shithouse performance but god damn it's good to be back in the Champs League!

Shit again. All post-Int'l games have been shit. Only the two Spanish wingers are playing decently enough.

I fear Stevie is past it. He certainly can't cope with 2 games a week anymore.

That was one of reasons why no champs league was so major for you.

Gerrard has struggled in a midfield 2 for a few years, but last year in a 3, once a week he was coping.

You need to start him from the bench more now.
Not only because he can't do 2 matches a week but because he will retire soon and you need to plan for life without him.

Awful performance, the score line actually flattered us.

Our movement/passing just isn't anywhere near where it was last year. People will say it's all because of Suarez having left and yes I concede we are struggling to score goals but the main problem is we aren't even creating chances, and that comes down to the midfield and wingers not being effective.

It's not just the lack of Suarez or goals that is worrying, to me it's the lack of pressure and pressing while not in possession that is main issue. Last year we gave sides no time on the ball, this season we seem to be sitting back in every facet of the game.

Stevie is a massive problem as well. Having Gerrard, Hendo and Lucas in the middle it's no wonder we aren't scoring goals. Gerrard doesn't have the legs to constantly be supplying , Hendo isn't good enough with his passing range despite his great B2B presence and Lucas is just shit.

We spent plenty of $$$ on attacking players but failed to address the problem of not having anyone in the midfield to drive it all. Can will replace Stevie and its such a shame he's injured as I really think he would be a step up at the moment. Wire is spot on, Stevie needs to come off the bench, I'd have him coming on the last 20-25 of each PL game.

Gonna be a long ass season unless BR can pull something outta his ass.

Suarez is the difference between scoring 2-3 goals at West Ham and scoring 4 goals. He's not the major reason why we had such a fluid game last season. Missing Suarez is also not the reason why we were totally over run in the midfield by West Ham. Rodgers should have seen it was going to happen, somehow didn't see it (f**king crazy), and as a result they scored 2 goals. Stevie shouldn't start anymore, he's past it. Sorry Stevie.

We don't deserve that top 4 place at the moment and Utd are well entitled to take it from us if we keep playing like shit merkins

We're lucky to be on 6 points tbh. Southampton probably deserved all 3 points against us as well.

Sakho again proving he left his form back in Brazil too. Really not good.

Sakho definitely at fault with the 3rd goal but we looked heaps better with him on than off.
Remember too we played one less defender from about 20 mins in.
Said it before and I'll say it again Move Gerrard from the defence.
Add this to the fact Lucas is too slow and our only other option there Allen isn't one of the greatest defenders the world has seen and there's your problem.
Brendan's best decision Hes made all year was taking the young Spaniard off.
Pity he doesn't get it right with who to put on.
Is Brendan trying to ruin young Sterlings career or something?
No brilliant move of our manager was responsible for Sterling scoring but he was responsible that he didn't have more opportunity.
West Ham killed us but taking Sterling out of that attack must have had big Sam smiling.

Saw some highlights of the league cup and young Rossiter looked very promising. Big minutes, lots of energy and a lovely taken goal. Gee we're in horrible form at the moment, really hoping a derby against the Toffees will wake us up.

On another note Phase 1 of the Anfield redevelopment was green lighted yesterday. Upgrading main stand by another 8.5k seats taking capacity to around 54000. Total redevelopment will take us to 58500 I believe.

Yep, where's all the pressing in defence from last year gone? Such slow and boring build up with the ball and we sit back and are lazy without it.

Why can't we shut up shop when leading in the 2nd half? Is it a mentality thing (Rogers saying "attack, attack, attack" until the end)?

City - almost blew a 2 goal lead
Palace - up 3-0
Ludogorets - up 1-0, almost blew it
Boro - up 2-1
Everton - up 1-0

We sit too deep when trying protect, as soon as that happens you just know someone is gonna mis clear a ball or f**k up which leads to a goal. We have seriously gone back 2 years in space of a transfer window. BR is gonna be under some serious pressure if it doesn't turn around.

It has to be a defensive system issue as well, how many CB pairings have we had? Always get f**k ups at crucial times. Do we even employ a defensive coach, our Goalkeeping coach is shithouse as well.
