I've never seen a Liverpool side play a half of football where we didn't have one shot on goal. That side had one mission and one mission only -limit the damage.
Whilst Brendan may think it's a good idea is he going to whinge if Real are so far in front in the group they send a second side out.
We have to win against Chelsea now.No excuses.

Kolo Toure had a rare blinder of a game, so expect Rodgers to start him against Chelsea where he will most likely score 2 own goals, concede a couple of pens and get himself sent off.

Read this article. Perfectly sums up the club.

FSG are doing well to make us eventually financially compete again with the elite. But on the 'football operation' side of things, we're shit, and we could learn a lot from the likes of of Atletico, BVB and even Southampton. Our source of financial competitiveness, at the moment, will be from sponsorship streams. John Henry is in Dubai right now gouging interest from potential corporate partners. We've set up offices in London to bring the club a lot closer to the big $$. And we're looking for Anfield naming rights.

But in saying all of this, with the amount of money spent on the likes of Lovren, Markovic, Balotelli and Lallana, and also their wages, couldn't have they been concentrated into fewer but more quality players?

So I've just read on another forum Ballo has been offered to 3 English clubs and 3 Italian clubs already. Apparently arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle have all been offered Mario for a January move. Also Sakho will be put up for sale from what I've read as well. Ridiculous if true about Sakho.

We've got Costa, Drogba and Remy, with Torres and Bamford on loan

Why on earth would we want Balotelli?

Yep, not too mention Mou has labelled him as unmanageable. I imagine Chelsea and Arsenal both laughed their asses off at the suggestion. No guarantee any club will take him and we can expect to make no profit from the sale.

Mou labelled him unmanageable because of his volatile personality. Rodgers' lack of success with Mario has been simply due to his form, because he's hardly made a fuss with his behaviour.

I was at the game on the weekend. Very mixed emotions but I will just leave that there.

The British media has really been hammering English clubs for the lack of atmosphere in games, and I tell you what, they aren't wrong.
To start the game, both sets of fans were buzzing. Chelsea fans started the Steve Gerrard song, Liverpool fans belted out the real version, it was spine tingling.

Then Emre scores, the place goes ballistic, the songs are pelted out, the Chelsea fans are silent, and the atmosphere is great.
What happened after that was horrid.
Once Chelsea got on top, the Liverpool fans were quiet, the Chelsea fans were loud and it was over from there IMO.

The fans really are the 12th man, especially when you out number them 5-1, but geez, it was like a morgue.

That will be the only Liverpool game I catch on this trip, probably for the best, but this trip hasn't left the good memories last year did.

Playing Mario up front by himself has been a waste of time. The last time we played decent football was against Spurs and guess what we had 2 up front.
Sturridge is rumoured to be back this week.
I'm tipping we'll see 2 strikers (at least in home games).
Makes you wonder why we haven't been playing 2 when Sturridge is out.
Answer may be we haven't got 2 good enough.
Mustn't have had enough money to buy another striker.
Hopefully the manager is learning from the mistakes he's made because i doubt he'll have £100 million to spend every year.

What's frustrating is that nearly every game he's played the 4-2-3-1, he's realised around the 65-70 minute mark that its not working, and then resorts to bringing on Borini and/or Lambert anyway. And guess what? We actually start playing a little better

BR was sacked from Reading because he was too obsessive with making his philosophy work, even though results just kept getting worse and worse and worse until it got to the point where there was almost no way back, and they had no choice but to sack him.

BR tried to do it again in his first season with 'tiki taka', had some mixed results, but overall not good enough. He scrapped it last year and found a style that totally fit the team. This season, I don't really know what style he's actually trying to achieve; the team has no bloody identity. If he keeps trying to persist with it, FSG will sack him, because I don't see how we're going to achieve things with the way he's making us play. FSG can be ruthless.

I'm not sure two up front will solve the issues of being pushed around in the midfield and the defensive issues at the back though.

It's hard to look decent when that's happening.

We never get bossed in midfield with 2 upfront.(park the bus was an exception but we weren't really bossed in midfield in that game)
Look at the results too.
Sterling gets more freedom and runs defences ragged.
All of a sudden the opposition defences have to sort out some options.
When we play the extra guy in midfield it takes away from us running him free.
Sounds odd but it's true.
The opposition midfield have to actually do some running which lets face it teams can match us pretty easily with the congested midfield.

The defence is another matter. Was a problem last year(we just outscored teams).
Hasn't improved it though I like the kid on the left.
Our central defence has issues that haven't been addressed despite the money that was outlaid.

At least a 4-4-2 diamond gives us more goals to make up for the goals we concede. Whatever formation we play, we concede goals. But we score a lot more goals with 4-4-2 than 4-2-3-1.

Rodgers thought he was addressing the issue by selling Agger and buying Lovren. I'm not so butthurt about Agger leaving. Very handy, but too unreliable because he's always injured. The real way to fix it is to get a defence coach

And it turns out that Shaqiri wanted to come...
