Lacazette has been known for a year or two, it's just this season he's had the break out year. If FSG want to go down this path, then that's what they need to do, identify and acquire these types of players just as they're about to explode. But I have no faith in our scouting system/managers eye for talent.

Remember when Rafa wanted Villa and Silva, but H&G wouldn't sanction it? Same with Alves.

Ok I stand corrected on certain points. I always like to learn.

Replace BR with Rafa? Really? Do people forget it was Rafa's infatuation with Gareth Barry and his under appreciation of one Xabi Alonso that saw Alonso request a transfer which saw him move to Real Madrid? That really helped Liverpool didn't it :sarcasm:

I mean if we want to talk about Rafa Benitez's strengths I suggest you look at some of his transfer signings as he made some complete turkeys too in his latter years at the club.

If the decision to replace Rogers happens I think the club would be better off going for someone other than Rafa myself.

Rafa definitely made some mistakes in the transfer market, none better illustrated than replacing Alonso with Aquiliani, but it's important to note at his apex with the club, he had earmarked players that would go onto become world class at other clubs, and it was the owners H&G that stopped him from doing that.

Once the asset stripping set in, it all unravelled. Would Rafa definitely win the title if he came back to Liverpool? There's nothing to suggest he would. One thing you could guarantee though is that we'd be defensively sound (which Rodgers can't setup to save himself) and frugal with the ball.

I beg to disagree with you sir. His final year at the club only Jamie Carragher and Dirk Kuyt played more games than Alonso did. For a guy who was "so rubbish" why would Benitez use him that much? Alonso's passing is what helped the team tick.

Further when he was sold, he was one of the few big name players to leave from the 2008-09 season when Liverpool finished 2nd in the EPL (Sami Hyypia was the other). What happened? Liverpool slumped to 7th and Benitez was fired at season's end.

By the way, no I won't "come back to you" at all about who or what BR signs. Not my job sunshine. Especially if you can't face it that yes Benitez helped sign a quality player in Alonso, then f'ed it all up with his love for Gareth Barry. If you can't handle that, well it is not my problem, and no amount of profanity on your part will change that.

he was playing shithouse BEFORE barry was identified as a target. and even so barry was being looked at to cover left back at the time also. as you say, after the transfer saga, alonso went on to possibly his best form in a red shirt ever but prior to that after coming back from injury in 2007 lucas took over his spot on numerous occasions and came of age causing benitez to plan ahead.

which lead me to my next point that no matter how much proportion benitez is to blame for alonso's leaving, he is the ONLY liverpool manager in modern times to be able to attract true world class players like xabi, torres, masha reina etc to play for him. BR is still dreaming for his first.

Signed under the king

Try again

I know Kenny Dalglish was Manager when Suraez was signed. I was refuting the point you made in your post (which is quoted below with blod and underline to highlight you assertion I was refuting) -

You said Benitez was the ONLY Manager in modern times to attract world class players. I suggest you remember what you write before telling me what I write sonny jim.

It's questionable how rated Suarez was before his Ajax move but regardless, how many world class players has BR signed again?

Mate I never said BR did. I was just pointing out your error because of the hyperbole you used in relation to Rafa Benitez is all.

I have no problem with Raf per se. However I think it would be retrograde to re-sign him to replace Rogers is all. As I said earlier up thread, if Rogers is to be replaced I think it should be with somebody different is all. Reason being in football you rarely see Managers do as well in second stints at clubs than they did in their first stint.

Ciao. :)

So here is a list of some of the players we are linked with so far, I can see us getting none of them.

Ings
Bacca
Berahino
Benteke
Milner
Manzdukic
Jovetic

Good fun.. I would love benteke.. Can't see it happening though

Ings and Milner are the most likely in that list. Shows our ambition if we're linked to Danny Ings. Don't think Milner is someone we need either.

I agree jack... Unfortunately.

But will they even want to come after our 6-1 smashing by the heavyweights of stoke...

5-0 at half time. Far out. I know we aren't playing well and haven't for a few months now but that is just embarrassing.
