Its seems a stupid way to spend money when we could find someone else who could actually start the season!
If the signing pays off however then no worries

Looks like Lucas will be in the first team for at least 2 months.(subject to his availability).I really hoped Rafa would address the depth problem in the off season but really he's done nothing in this area.
Its not only Lucas we are relying on but we are short on Centre Backs (injuries)and Im praying nothing happens to Torres.
Torres wont play every game so who are we left with up front?
Just maybe Ryan Babel will get a chance to lead the line.
Its something Ive been waiting to see but Rafa only ever seems to use him as a sub.Hope its not Voronin that Rafa thinks is his number 2 striker.
All of a sudden a winger is no longer our biggest problem and we havent done a thing about that.
Spurs at Spurs.
We lost there last year(maybe unlucky)but gee theyd be fancying their chances this week if a couple of defenders dont make it to the line for the Reds.

Decent young defender in Kelly, San Jose and Darby tho

Spurs on the weekend. Gerrard pulled out of the england squad so should be fresh, Carra has some doubt over him and with Skrtel not fully fit we are low on defenders at the moment. Will be interesting but i suspect 1-1 draw will be on the cards.

Not a good way to start the season but we lost at Spurs last year.
Spurs showed they'll be a tough side to beat at home and shaded us on the day.
Still the talking point will be the non-penalty for the foul on Voronin late in the game (and possible red card-but that may have been really harsh).
There was no way we would of got 2 penalties away in the first game.
If Rafa's going to play Babel surely he has to play him as a forward not a winger.Yossi proved last year he's the better option and Id much rather Babel leading the line than out in that left midfield/wing role.(theres no alternative if Torres gets shut out and they did a pretty good job on him).
2 great goals from Spurs and they look to have more depth than previous years.
Our defensive injury worries continue.Skrtel and Carra's collision just showed how desperate we are in the centre back position with Agger also out injured.Normally Skrtel would of been replaced straight away and I think should of again today. No doubt he'll have scans and a fracture wouldnt surprise anyone.
Our lack of depth I'm afraid has cost us already.

It should have been 2 all. That was a clear foul on Veronin. Then again, since Harry took over last year, Spurs at the Lane have been one of the harder away ventures. Am I right in saying that Everton were the only away side to get a win there last season?

No Aston Villa beat them there last year as well as a few others. Everton were the only side to beat them there while Harry has been in charge.

Beat Stoke 4-0.
Torres scored after about 4 or 5 mins and we basically dominated the game apart from a couple of minute period when Stoke had a few corners.
Johnson played a fine game on debut scoring a goal and also defending quite well.He played more like a winger than a fullback so you can expect there will be times he'll get caught out against better quality opposition. Its the gamble we have to take against the lower sides I suppose.2 draws against Stoke last year so I suppose we are ahead on that.
Kuyt and Ngog(in the final seconds)got the other goals.Benayoun certainly worried the defence more than Babel managed against Spurs.Being at home may have helped but Babel didnt even get a run.
Riera made his first appearance of the year playing the last 10 minutes. He's supposed to of been injured and not available for last weeks match.
Pretty good performance and we rested Torres,Gerrard and Kuyt in the last 10 minutes.
Gerrard and Johnson were the top performers on the night.
Ayala played in the centre of defence(no Skrtel or Agger)and did well.

Nice to see that we started the season a few weeks after everyone else, good result tho!
I've heard Ayala is sh*t, kind of wish Kelly would be playing instead of him, Kelly has huge wraps on him, and it'd be nice to see a local get given a go for once! But i'll take a 4-0 win anytime

Damn, for a second i thought you guys were talking about Roberto Ayala. Nearly had a little cyber rave going at the potential of the great man playing at the club.

Good result, definite improvement from last season's debacle(s) with Stoke. Torres \\\\:D/.

lol 2-0 Villa at halftime. What a bunch of geniuss Liverpool are. Villa have won 2 of their last 18 competitive matches and are making Pool look like a reserve grade team at Anfield. Full credit if you guys can come back from this.

I thought it was bad having Eboue on my team, Id rather have 11 Eboues over 1 Lucas.

And its over 3-1 Aston Villa. After 3 games Liverpool have already lost as many games as they did in the entire 08/09 EPL season. Somebody send an sos to Alonso, because this current team aint winning sh*t this season.
