Ill Add Toto, Talking Heads & The Clash To My Favourites as well

Just Recently Bought, The Best of Dire Straits & Mark Knopfler: Private Investigations, it is possibly one of the best "Best of" Cd's i have heard, it has all the Greatest Hits, I Thoroughly Enjoy Walk of Life, Money for Nothing, So Far Away, Sultans of Swing (altho that was released in 79) but knopflers guitarist capabilities really come out in the 2nd cd, in the Title, With it mostly him Individual Doing Instrumental, and its truly great to listen to

I rate knopfler as good as Tommy Emmanuel, and that is a big call, to compare any guitarist with tommy

I loved all the so called RNB Brit Bands, Like The Yardbirds, Derek and The Dominos, Cream etc, and Eric Clapton who is one of my favourite solo artists

I really appreciate Solo Guitarists, Tommy, Mark, Eric are probably the top 3 guitarists ive ever heard, that are classical, soft rock

other genres, you would look at Jimi Hendrix, and The Ramones, The Clash, any punk band from the 70,and 80s had pretty good guitarists as well

Too Many To Name

Bahahahahaha

The first part of the quote was ok, but to actually say Punk guitarists had "pretty good guitarists" is laughable to say the least, they are the most simplistic, ordinary guitarist every created, who proved inspirational to all other average guitarists who couldn't make it.

Thats what makes punk great, anyone can do it, just ask the 14 & 15 year olds at Youth centres who play just like blink etc, at their age.

Here's a job for you, go and listen to Eddie V, Ritchie Blackmore, Steve Vai, Malmstein and then go and listen to teh Ramones, Clash and all of those other crap punk bands and tell me honestly if you still think they're good guitarists, if you still do...i'd be interested to know why?

Almost Forgot, Tommy Emmanuel is a solid Aussie guitarist, but on the world stage he couldn't even hold a candle to the elite.

Sydraider, LA GUNS are unreal, have quiet a few of teh songs on my computer

Yeah ron, La guns had some quality songs back in the late 80's. First album especially is a ripper, songs like electric gypsy, bitch is back were great.
Others like Rip and Tear and never enough off the cocked and loaded album were good also.

Ron have you ever listened to Bang Tango? First two albums were solid, Psycho Cafe and Dancing on coals.

Punk guitarists have more feel in their work than ANY of those wanky guitar players, the solo for the sake of it etc etc. Which is part of what makes punk excellent, the rawness, the attitude, apart from sounding bloody great.

And its not like they are crap musicians. Listen to Matt Freeman or Lex Fletham play the bass, the music of Propaghandi, Strung out guitarists are friggen awesome, El Hefe is tops among others. Even East Bay Ray of the Dead Kennedys is a top guitarist. Maybe even listen to the musicianship of the dropkick murphys as well as alot of the ska punk around.

Added to this, what music has stood the test of time? Which is still bought, still gets crowd members and well remembered? Punk motherf**king Rock. Which is laughed at, known universally as cheezy and long since established as being sh*t? Hair metal, glam rock, whatever you wanna call it. It died in the 80's.

BTW Ron, it is actually ok to enjoy music for, as crazy as it sounds, the music itself, and not just the sales or the skill of the musicians.

The "Solo for the Sake of it" Line is usually spurted by guitarists who cant play them.

You have just contradicted yourself with that statement.

Your vai's and Malmsteens as you so state, wank on with solos, dude thats what they do, they are guitar virtuosos so to speak who get off on a sh*tload of leadwork.
These guys are not band artists but solo artists, different kettle of fish.

Listen to the magic work of the late great Dimebag Darrell and there is no evidence of wanking solos, just a pure musician who's work could never be emulated by guitar players in punk bands.

Dmebag was a top guitarist, even ifi like about 2 pantera songs (cemetary gates n cowboys from hell). But i'm sure thet some punk guitarist could play that, dont know about writing it tho lol.

Rubbish!!!, you play guitar?, to play lead, or to write lead like a Dimebag, Eddie eg, you need to have been playing and specialising in lead for many years just to be at a level which makes you reasonably compatible on a big stage. Punk artists speacilse in chords, and nothing else, this suggests thats there speciality.

Lead guitar isn't something you learn overnight, my mate Mick taught me guitar, he's been playing for 20 years, a great guitarists in his own right, however, the last time he saw me i played to him 12 years after starting ther guitar and he blown away and conceaded that he could never play the stuff that i play, because i specialised in that part, just like i'm probably not as good rythem player as he...difference being though is rythem isn't as technical as lead, and can be taught in less the time.

Ever also noticed that bands would always have 2 guitarits, one for rythm specifically and one more for lead?

Just a note, do you think if Dee Dee Ramone etc or other punk guitarists didn't make it they still would've in another band or as a solo artist, NOPE!!!!!

Do you think If Eddie didn't have VH he would've been picked-up and been a star?, absolutely, probably more so, just ask Gene Simmons who tried to buy Eddie out of VH before an album was released.

Next i'll hear Ringo Star was a great drummer because he played in the Beatles, and he could've been just as good as John Bonham etc

Actually i could've been as good as Eddie too hey

Dee Dee played bass mate, showing your knowledge of punk

Undoubtedly many metal guitarists are better punk guitarist, which does not, as i pointed out, make metal better music. However you failed to note some of the guitarists i mention, especially the Strung Out guitarist, they are excellent.
