Your NSW team for Game II

Doesn't need major changes.

Hayne in for Morris must be the absolute priority. This change, and this change alone would have won us the game last night even with our forwards being completely dominated.

King out for TLL is my next change. King was never up to it, and simply needs to be replaced. TLL is my pick as he has been there before, and played damned well.

Farah in for Young would be my next priority. Young offered nothing, and if we want to have a forwards based hooker for the opening 20 then bring on a more attacking player, starting Ennis and bringing on Farah would be the ideal combo.

My last and final change would be Lewis into the side for any backrower except Gallen in the side. Don't care who it is as he is a superior player in every facet of the game to Scott, Creagh and Bird.

Thats 4 changes in total, however all players I am bringing in have equal or far more experience in origin than those they are replacing.

Other changes that could be made like Idris for Gas, Merrin for Tolman/Douglas etc are all well and good but IMO would be too much of a disruption to the side.

2 players I absolutely would NOT change are Pearce and Soward. They were playing behind one of the most dominated packs of all time last night, and still managed to lay on some reasonable attacking play as well as gaining us ground with their kicks. They found the chest of Slater a lot, but thems the breaks when you are having to roost it 60m up field because you are kicking from inside your 30 yet again. Lesser kickers would have had QLD starting every set on their own 40 or even halfway with where we were kicking from most of the night, whereas these 2 at least kept it respectable.

Leaving Hayne out in the first game was criminal... so he's back... King and Young obviously not up to it. I prefer Farah, but can see the argument for Ennis. Luke Lewis must be a chance, but don't see them dropping Scott or Creagh yet

Gids in for young is about the only change I expect to see.

Have you all just met Ricky Stuart? I don't expect him to choose Hayne next game unless he plays a couple of blinders.

3. Idris
4. Jennings
5. Uate
6. Soward
7. Pearce
8. Snowden
9. Ennis
10. Learoyd-Lahrs

14. Creagh
15. Mannah
16. Merrin
17. Farah

That would be my team. Minimal changes.

I hate Ennis but he won't be dropped and had an OK game so I named him. I like the two hooker policy, but if you are going to use it, the player on the bench needs to have a different style of game to the starting hooker. Farah does, Young does not. Young can't even train with the side, FFS. 20 minutes twice a week, for what?

King - self explanatory. One of the worst Origin selections ever. TLL is a proven performer at this level. No brainer.

Morris - has never done anything in a rep game, ever, for either state or country. His mistake last night cost us a try. Hayne is another proven performer at this level (especially on the wing) and should never have been left out in the first place.

I was not happy with a few other players, but they can all get another go. We can't make too many changes.

Agree with your changes, except for Farrah. His defence really worries me. Id have Lewis instead.

Will Gidley even play a game before the next team is picked? If not it would be very hard to pick him.

I would brink in Hayne for Morris, Farah for Young, Galloway for King and I would be tempted to bring in Dwyer or Watmough for Creagh.

SoO II NSW.

Moz for Hayne - Moz has been flat at rep level. He is a very good winger, but not great. Saw almost no ball all game I, and had one cluster fudge in defence. We could use Hayne's spark in attack.

Young for Gidley - Young was serviceable for the first 20 and had a huge work rate in defence in that early period, but I felt he wasn't quite fast enough for this level. No disrespect, the guy has a huge heart for footy.
The reason I nominated Gidley is that if he is fit, the selectors will want to pick him, so this is the best way to use him, and he does have good utility value. I'd personally go with an Ennis/Farah double.

King for Tolman - King was dreadful. We knew that before the game though... enough said.

Creagh for Lewis - I'm 50/50 about this one. Both play very different sort of games, but I am starting to think Creagh's strength as a hole runner and offloader aren't suited to Origin - thats more what you want from the props at Origin level (Petro being the example). Lewis' tough game with good hands is probably more suited to Origin.

Changes highlighted. Tolman is injured, so TLL in for King. An examination of the stats convinces me Creagh should start ahead of Bird. In terms of runs and metres per minutes played they were on an even keel, but Creagh was (and is) a much better defender. And Bird is honestly more suited to an impact role off the bench of the two players.

Watmough is not going to be chosen, so it's a waste of time bringing him up. Glenn Stewart has a bigger chance of being selected. Alan Tongue probably does too.

f**k I think a few people are being harsh on Creagh, I thought he was ok, I didnt think he had a heck of a lot of game time. Not sure he deserves to be dropped on that performance. King on the other hand...

Tolman is injured. So you'd have to go with TLL or Galloway to replace King, IMO.
Fixed. This is probably the best NSW have got:

1 Josh Dugan (Canberra)
2 Jaryd Hayne (Parramatta)
3 Michael Jennings (Penrith)
4 Mark Gasnier (St George Illawarra)
5 Akula Uate (Newcastle)
6 Jamie Soward (St George Illawarra)
7 Mitchel Pearce (Sydney)
8 Tim Mannah (Parramatta)
9 Kurt Gidley (Newcastle)
10 Kade Snowden (Cronulla-Sutherland)
11 Beau Scott (St George Illawarra)
12 Greg Bird (Gold Coast)
13 Paul Gallen (c) (Cronulla-Sutherland)

14 Michael Ennis (Canterbury-Bankstown)
15 Trent Merrin (St George Illawarra)
16 Tom Learoyd-Lahrs (Canberra)
17 Luke Lewis (Penrith)

- Tolman would be better than TLL, but injured.
- Maybe start with Ennis and use Farah of the bench, but selectors will give Gidley a start
- I think its flip a coin between Lewis and Creagh for bench second rower.

Gallen plays tight enough to take on the role of another prop when needed. They need some real punch off the bench and Idris could provide that. watching that game last night, at the 30 minute mark Qld were punch drunk and if that gorilla came on fresh he would have created all sorts of drama I reckon.
They'll only change King and Morris though I reckon.

Learoyd-Lahrs can't start ... he has to be off the bench.

Mannah would start.

Tolman is not available for selection as he is injured for 4-6 weeks .. he will miss Origin 2 at least, if not Origin 3 as well.
