Guptill back I think which will help (assuming he's been going well in the nets LOL)

We're a good ODI side, so should go close - but they are easily the best ODI team in the world at the moment.

We miss McCullum at the top of the order - partly because of the explosive starts he could provide, and partly because Latham has just become a black hole - I really see him as a test specialist atm

Guptill back, which is great.

Ronchi is supposed to be back too, which is not so great. Accomodating him basically means dropping Broom, I think.

So...

Guptill
Brownlie
Williamson
Taylor
Neesham
de Grandhomme
Ronchi
Santner
Southee
Sodhi
Boult

Not super confident

yeah, think it has too - problem is Neesham >> than DdG and Broom with the bat, but his bowling can't be trusted - he warrants a place in the side due to his bat IMO. Ronchi's just Ronchi, guess there's a small chance he comes out and just kills it - but I am keen to move on to Phillips asap, guess that'll have to wait until after the Champions Trophy

Brownlie has done reasonably, the other option is to leave him out and open with Kane (who effectively has been opening anyway) - but there's a fair chance Brownlie and Guptill do a good job.

I suspect Dave will play, perhaps ahead of Sodhi?

Dave?

I think we might see Fergusson.

I'd be open to Latham at 5, but that would only work if he is keeping or Neesham is bowling at least 7 overs. But that's made even harder by accomodating Santner and de Grandhomme.

Wasn't Patel brought in especially for this wicket, and the left handers, and the fact that he's a tremendous bowler in England

yeah - really we have an all-rounder in Santner who can't be trusted with the bat (and why he's batting about Colin is beyond me) but has been great with the ball, and another (Neesham) who can't be trusted with the ball but has been pretty damn good with the bat... the third CDG has batted too low to know what he might do with the bat, and is only an effective bowler in limited conditions

yep, for sure. If you have Southee and Boult, you need to get 30 overs out of CDG, Santner, Neesham and one more (Sodhi, Williamson, Fergusson).

We're a bowler short. But we're a batter short.

That's what happens when you put in too many mediocre allrounders.

Been a long time since we've lost a home ODI series - hopefully we can take it to Eden Park for a decider

opening with Dave and Santner, and Dave gets de Kock immediately

Yeah, that puzzles me - to be honest I am not sure why he's not at 3, he's just insanely good - guess their rationale is they want him there at the end??

To be honest I'd just want him there for as many balls as he can face

4 overs left

Get AB out and SA well under 240

If he is there at the end , well over 260

really nice 50 from Guppy, but seriously, Smithy wants to make sweet sweet love to him, it's getting embarrassing (again)

NZ looking good at the moment. A collapse is always on the cards and South Africa are favourites, but pretty happy at the moment.

Geez that would be like a double decker ice cream truck hitting a brick wall.
