Because they need the Lower grades, Too much to run them until the tier under NRL player numbers, pathways build up.

That takes time, Naming the side Perth Bears is not linking to Sydney.

Running the u17's out of Sydney. Allows them to target the best 15/16 year olds. Have them finish school with their friends before moving over.

I'd imagine similar would be done with WA locals. The aim would be get those numbers high enough to by pass the Sydney side
With 6 years lead in they could achieve that in Perth.

The Bears aren't getting in a Sydney team though. It doesn't have to be sold to Sydney people.

It is a junior program to put the NSW Kids in. It will help on TV because some people will recognise the name and colours. As a result would get old fans who are on boards sponsoring RL who wouldn't normally do so

As opposed to say Titans playing Pirates or some other new name that has no link anywhere. Particularly playing away at an hour where people can't watch locally live

North Sydney Oval holds 10,000 people and has little to no corporate facilities, IF there are a game to be in Sydney it would be there.

So whether the kids of the North Shore get on board isn't an issue.
Any home game in Sydney should be at Accor to accommodate the 200k bears supporters that apparently exist.

Not sure they could.

What 14 year old is going to commit to Perth when they will be atleast 20 before they debut?
Some other club will snap them up on the promising NRL sooner.

So you can't have the pathway without an NRL club.

On the flip side you need strong pathways from day one because injuries will hit and so one.

This will also be an issue when it comes time for NZ 2 and any other new market team

So all that is needed is a feeder club.

A mix - Roosters, Manly, Souths, no one.

It would be a far better result for the North Shore region if one of Sydney’s NRL teams had control of the area. They’re able to actively engage the area on a regular basis.

There’s going to be little reason for a North Shore kid with no ties to the Bears to start supporting a WA Bears team. Whereas if the North Shore was given over to one of the existing Sydney teams it’s an easier sell if they can see the team regularly and have them present in their area. It would feel more natural and more like theirs, instead of having people tell them they should be supporting a WA team they have no ties to.
Roosters are a stones throw away, surely given their lack of Jnrs and affluent fanbase, that would have been the logical choice to take over NS? Lets be honest if they didnt have a pokie den Bears would be long gone.

The NRL has looked at the game in Australia and concluded that Sydney fans need more opportunities to watch Rugby League.

What vision

Corporate board members, the spiritual home of Rugby League support in Australia, and a sector of society that is so neglected.

Come on, what did you honestly expect from NSW Vlandys? Just because hes pushing it doesnt mean we will buy it.

Time will tell if Bears and the Perth consortium can find a happy ground.
If not Bears will be back looking for somewhere to be club 20,21,22,23 24...........

I do not understand why the North Sydney Bears would want to sacrifice their identity and history for a small pool of RL fans from another market that don't want to be associated with them?

Wouldn't it be better for North Sydney Bears fans to stay as they are in the NSW Cup down to lower age divisions?

Norths and Balmain should have merged way back when.

Sad time in RL. Remember at one point they were looking to cut Penrith because of the magic criteria? What a genius move that would have been.

The Titans, Bris 2 and Perth Bears is a move to redress some of the outcomes of the war. They just need to make sure they can get it to work for the present and future… not just the past.

yeh I can see that would be the model first grade and NSw cup team out of perth, then jnr age groups run in NS and perth. NS jnrs to be paid for by NSLC, Perth jnrs to be paid for by Perth Bears.

Naming the side Perth Bears isnt linking it to sydney? Hows that work?
I honestly can’t see the Bears NSW Cup side playing out of Perth, way to much $$$ flying so many team all over Aust.
You would attract more players from QLD and NSW if the Bears NSW Cup side stays were it is.
That’s was one of the main reasons the Storm linked with the Bears again as flying players to QLD was proving very costly.
A majority of the Storm players want to be in NSW not QLD and it would be the same with WA.
Anyways as I had said before they have until 2030 to work this stuff out.

If it’s not being sold to Sydney people then there should be no qualms with the North Sydney district being handed off to another NRL team if the Bears are moving to WA. Everyone wins then, the Bears get their name and colours back in the NRL, WA won’t get white-anted by people wanting the Bears back in Sydney and kids on the North Shore can have a Sydney NRL team that’s present and can engage with the area.

The Bears will never agree to that though because their new market doesn’t matter to them as much as their ability to hold onto the North Shore in any deal to re-enter the NRL.

So you're worried about North Sydney doing a Manly?

No geniusmate wants Manly to grab the North Shore for themselves when the Bears go to WA, hell Manly ignore the Northern Beaches and get all their players from Blacktown why would they bother with the North Shore.
Manly had their chance, they could’ve been a part of the North Shore and the Central Coast but they wanted everything for themselves, the Central Coast people stopped attending games in droves, Manly got the message and returned back to Brokevale.

Manly can’t even develop juniors from the northern beaches god forbid they get the north shore as well

Blacktown isn’t in manly last time I checked
