Bennett has never returned to a previous team.
People are crazy to be even considering he will return.

We will probably sign an insider again.

On twitter re Wayne

Hearing Wayne Bennett is a done deal with the Red V. If everything runs smoothly over the next few days expect it to be announced soon #Redv

Hero to zero here, loss to boss there. Newcastle coach Wayne Bennett to make decision soon (regarding target for St George Illawarra job).

@brissyredv much more then a rumour mate #Redv board said its a done deal. But we all know what out board is like so fingers crossed

I just hope it's not another Bellamy affair.

IF Wayne Bennett’s time at the Newcastle Knights comes to an end this year, where will the mastercoach go?

A meeting on Thursday between Bennett, the Knights and new club owners the NRL is expected to paint a clearer picture of the mastercoach’s future in Newcastle.

Lured to the Hunter by Nathan Tinkler’s $1m plus per year contract offer, the Knights probably can’t afford Bennett’s enormous salary anymore and results this year has seen the six-time premiership-winner lumped with the tag of Newcastle’s least successful coach.

While that doesn’t make Bennett any less desirable to an NRL club, his impeccable coaching record speaks for itself and the Knights were one win from last year’s grand final, the question remains if it’s not the Knights next year then who takes Bennett on board?

Few clubs could stump up the seven-figure salary Bennett commands and of those clubs fending off the dreaded bottom four — Sharks, Knights, Raiders, Dragons and Titans — only the Dragons job is actually or likely to be available next year.

Given Bennett took St George Illawarra to the 2010 premiership he would seem an obvious candidate, but the Dragons have spoken to former Cowboys coach Neil Henry at least twice already while interim coach Paul McGregor seems to be putting together an impressive resume for the gig full-time.

Rumours of Bennett’s interest to return to Brisbane have been doing the rounds since February last year, but much water needs to pass under that bridge for that situation to come to fruition.

Firstly, Anthony Griffin has Brisbane pushing for a top four finish which would guarantee beyond any doubt his future at the club.

Even if they miss the top four, Griffin won’t be removed easily given he has much support in high levels at the club and his recruitment of Anthony Milford next season just might tip the Broncos into genuine premiership contention.

If Bennett were to leave the Knights at the end of 2014 and want a return to his family in Queensland, the Gold Coast Titans would be crazy not to approach the NRL veteran and offer some sort of role at the club.

Coach John Cartwright has already shown this year he has an ability to work successfully alongside a strong head coach in Henry, so why not see if Bennett is interested in helping the club.

It doesn’t have to be as head coach, Cartwright won’t be sacked with two years to go on his contract, but Bennett may offer a new perspective to the Titans as a consultant or director that can help turn the club around.

Most of all, Bennett would bring an immediate respect and hope back to the Titans who are struggling on and off the field. If things fall apart between Bennett and the Knights, then the Titans need to somehow find the finances to take a gamble that could help lift the club immediately out of their mire.

With twists and turns, the saga goes on.

That just shows the daily telegraph has no idea, of course we would want a back up option if Bennett falls through, i think Doust might have bad memories of Bellamy changing his mind so its always nice to have a plan B.

Done. What would do without you.

Now tell us, what do you think of the possibility of Bennett returning and do you think Boyd would come with him?

I'm 50/50 about Bennett returning and not fussed with Boyd coming back, mainly for the poor attitude he has shown during payment problems. It's the fans who he lets down and I would borderline jump the fence ,smack him one and pay the fine if he did that at Kogarah wearing the redv.

Yet you bag me for questioning whether Bennett is the best option. I see too many people jumping in with both feet assuming he has all the answers. I'm 50/50 as well cos the last thing we need is 3 more years of Misery

I think jenninga's 50/50 is in relation to the "possibility" of bennett returning...I.e does he think it will actually happen...

As opposed to whether he wants him back....

That's how I read it...

I personally would take bennet back in a heartbeat. ..but whether it will happen or not, my guts says no...

I'm undecided on the Bennett issue as well.

The last time he was at the Dragons he produced instant results and yet he has constantly struggled with the Nights. Thankfully, we are not the Knights, but re-signing Bennett could go one of two ways. Either it could be a master stroke, or a complete disaster.

I'm all in favour of an experienced coach who already has some runs on the board, but I'm beginning to waiver in my belief that Bennett could solve all of the Dragons woes with merely the wave of his hand.

I've copped a lot of flack for even suggesting Bennett isn't like the 2nd coming of Christ. I don't know the answer but I have some questions over it. If he comes I'll support it and if he doesn't I'll feel no loss. He left the Dragons after losing 10 of the last 14 then raided the club. He's having a rough trot with the knights this year as they are coming last and he is now the worst coach in their history. Sure there are many pros & cons to consider but they must be considered. I can't see what his motivation would be to return to the Dragons. It will be an interesting month

please explain how bennett raided the club?

- Boyd was always going to leave with Bennett we knew that when he signed
- McKinnon was already advising the club he was leaving to join newcastle as he wanted to be closer to this girlfriend and family
- costigan was signed by the dragons for 80k a season, and after an impressive stint at the dragons wanted a salary increase as part of his new contract - the dragons declined, Wayne threw him a lifeline. (100k a season was the rough contract at the Knights.. so we lost costigan for a mere 20k... )
- Beau Scott left after the dragons refused to offer him a new contract which had a salary increase. Wayne once again signed him after negotiations with the dragons ceased...

so that basically leaves jeremy smith of any note doesnt it? who went to sharkies after us anyway... ... shame Wayne for "raiding" us of 1 player...maybe
