There's already been several names tossed around, what are your thoughts on the following?

Nathan Brown - I'd be alright with this. He's well and truly experienced now. I just don't know if he's hard nosed enough or would get the respect of the players.

Tim Sheens - I think this could be worst possible signing (besides Hagan, Matt Elliott, Kearney etc)

Garth Brannan - Don't know a lot about him, but seems to be doing good things at Penrith.

Geoff Toovey - I would like this, but it's hard to bring someone in from a team that is going equally as bad and be respected as a top coach.

Laurie Daley - Unproven, no thanks.

Craig Bellamy - Best possible outcome - won't happen.

Danny Buderus - He could get us firing and finishing the season well, but I don't think it's the right time for him.

What do you guys think on the above, any others you think will be looked at?

Someone who hasn't had anything to do with the club previously and appears to have half a brain.

That rules out most of the list.

Why even bother with this thread? Every man and his dog can see that there is only one logical choice, but you are all too afraid to admit it. The time has come for Michael Hagan to retake what is rightfully his.

Brown, Toovey and Brennan are the 3 that seem remotely viable to me. Brown has been out of it long enough to be detached from the players and has had some success elsewhere... Toovs, well he's a firey bastard and I don't think he'd take shit from the squad... and I've heard Brennan is also an iron taskmaster - which puts him on my list by that virtue alone.

Tom Shines, Michael Hagen et al need to be as far away from the club as possible.

Kimmorley and Kevin Walters would also be in the frame, Kimmorley more so, personally I'm not fussed on either of them

Please not Kimmorley. I've heard his commentary and genuinely believe that he has a learning disorder and a Forrest Gump level IQ.

Well said. I'd rather Keep Stone than Sign Kimmorley and I really am happy that Stone is gone.

Bennett wanted Brennan here as his successor. That's good enough for me. If the club doesn't go for him, then I'll take Brown in a heartbeat.

Hook would be good.

He is a very good defensive coach and is a hard task master who doesn't cop crap from players. He does make some strange coaching decisions some times but would still be my top pick at this stage.

We just need to ensure that having a connection with the Hunter area is not a criteria for the head coach. The person needs to be results orientated, have a strong demonstratable defensive system, be a very hard taskmaster who doesn't accept mediocrity irrespective of who they are.

I'll use the analogy of a ship taking on water and in a storm.

What kind of captain do you want at the helm?

One that's never been at a helm before except as a chief officer ? Has little experience and unproven ?

Or a seasoned captain who has a proven track record?

Of course it's the later. Great to talk about some of those blokes but they would only have success at a club with a stable culture and a roster thats been together for a while, like Toovey taking over at Manly.

It has to be a seasoned mature coach to steady the ship.

Tim Sheens for mine.

If I could dream , Hasler, Cleary, Bellamy

People suggesting Nathan Brown have me shaking my head....seriously ? Just think for 5 minutes before posting.

My money is on Brown or Toovey. Not 100% sure either is right for us though. I rate them it is just we need to get this absolutely right this time. Maguire is my wish if I could make it happen.

Toovey for mine. Will not tolerate any shit and able to attract the right players.

Downside - would he coach the 1997 premiers?
