I am guessing Mitchell Moses will be given first chance.

I am also like you in that I like the look of Chee Kam. I don't think he ever got a real go at Manly and I know he was really highly spoken of at Canberra. I work with a guy who used to rave about him but as we all know, kids can shine as a junior and never reach the heights they are expected to.

Another point made by WT Unity is that of reserve grade. It did serve to allow those young guys coming through to build their body but it also gave them exposure to some really good players at the back end of their careers. I can think back to some of those old reserve matches where the old heads would be yelling instructions on defensive or attacking plays and the young guys did learn the game...the jump now from 20's to NRL is too much for some.

I just hope we are competitive this year. I don't expect miracles but I'd really like to see us be in games right to the end....

Moses will be goal kicker and is a fine one. Better then Richards was last year.

Our front row rotation will be fine. Woods, Sue, Ava and Grant form a pretty formidable foursome. We shouldn't have down periods like previous years when the starting props go off. Then guys like Griffin, Graham etc breathing down their necks.

Agree we need someone to step up in the backrow. Lawrence was strong to end the year but really you want a powerful option. Chee Kam, Liolaveve, sironen etc, need at least one of these guys to fulfill the potential we know they have.

One of the things that has me excited is guys who featured regularly in our 17 last year like Lovett, Buchanan, Milone, santi, hoeter (former 2 have left the club) etc might not even make the starting side in nsw cup with the new additions we have. We shouldn't be wondering who will be in the side in 2016, it will be who misses out.

In more general terms regarding our 2016 line-up....I'm starting to feel a bit more enthused about our forward stocks (especially with the signing of Grant). Back row continues to be the uncertainty.....but we have to hope that Lawrence consolidates his promising switch and becomes VERY GOOD. I'm talking about a "Ryan Hoffman" type of Very Good! In addition to that (and relating back to the above) let's hope Sironen a year or 2 on can aim up and deliver on his potential and stay injury free. On top of those 2 there is Edwards and Lovett (tackling machines) the 2 new Ipswich men and Chee Kam (I think Chee Kam has potential). There you go - I'm starting to fell better about the back row already! Unfortunately I am now concerned about centre and Goal-Kicking.....Who is going to kick?

Given his background, Lawrence is going to be more of a Luke Lewis back rower than a Ryan Hoffman one.

Hoffman is more of a workhorse. Lewis is better as an attacker, especially running strong lines, a trait which has always been one of Rowdy's greatest strentghs.

I agree that young Sironen's transition was rushed and you are right that the club simply bulked him up in the matter of one off season and said...here you go - you're an NRL backrower...go and dominate. This has happened to others as well and it probably also highlights the competition's structure (no proper reserve grade) is not the best, or at least not as good as it once was. It particularly effects a young player who is going to bulk up and move from centre or 5/8 to a back rower. There is nowhere for this apprenticeship to take place as I don't feel that clubs currently think there is much to be gained by playing talented players (who are on good money) in the NSW Cup.

it's not just the physical changes.

It's easy enough to switch from centre to back row, the play is similar, and the mindset is similar

But a half has a completely different and unique mindset to everyone else in the team. And when you've been in that role a long time, it's bloody hard to crack out of it.

Put it this way, what we've done with Sironen would be the same as if we said to Brooks, "Put on 10kilos, you're moving to the back row"

While the physical dimensions may favour Sironen heavily, mentally, they are still both halves.

Going from five-eighth to centre though, is a solid step. You can still be a ball player attacking fringe defenders but you also learn how to run good lines and become a good support player.

This clubs management of Sironen is frustrating. The last time they f**ked up a truly gifted played was with Bronson Harrison. A great back rower and Sheens tried to fatten him up and make him a prop. If he had've been allowed to develop as back rower, he'd still be playing in the NRL as a top line player imo.

Some players, you just don't f**k with. Others have a very obvious developmental path.

We seem to have no idea how to further develop talent.

Bring it on. You will all be pleasantly surprised with the 2 ipswich men.

So I didn't go but reading comments from those who went to the members meeting on Saturday:

*Taylor saying justin hunt is favorite for the vancant wing spot
* Joel Edwards and the 2 qld cup boys fitness is behind everyone else
* Chee Kam likely to start the year in NSW cup
* Josh Aloiai pushing for a bench spot
* Moses leg injuries are making Taylor not want to use him as a goal kicker, saying Hunt and Rankin are referred

If that's the case I think the full strength team will be:

1. Tedesco
2. Hunt
3. Simona
4. Naquima
5. Nofoaulma
6. Moses
7. Brooks
8. Grant
9. Farah
10. Woods
11. Sironen
12. Lawrence
13. Sue

14. Halatau
15. Cherrington
16. Seumanifangi
17. Aloiai

I think it's actually Rankin that JT has in front for the wing spot. Sounds bizarre, but I've had a lurk over at the wtforum and multiple people have said as much.

Yeah there seems to be 2 lines of thought with who he said lol. I'm not a Hunt fan but Rankin in the wing seems strange. He played fullback and centre in the ESL but well gone are the days where centre and wingers were easily interchangeable. Rankin has great footwork but o use it needs room. Wingers don't get the ball in space 20ms infield like the used too. These days you need to be a strong finisher.

As much as we don't like JT he picked guys in their proper positions. He isn't a Sheens who regularly had 'inventive' selections. Not saying it's not true (and I noticed in one training video Rankin on the left wing) but it would be an odd one.

Centre is the position we are really light on; so I'd be interested to know whether people think the loss of Seve will impact us (this year or next). I have seen him play a few times and been impressed with him but to all those who have seen much more of him, would he have made our top side?

Same as with Funaki, Seve has gone to a side where I doubt he will break into their top side yet had he stayed with us he may have. I am interested to know what others think about the loss of both these guys.

Obviously the Broncos see enough in them, that alone makes me think they have talent. No doubt Bennett would have run his eye over them before signing them. I know you can't keep everyone but I am concerned the two positions we are most vulnerable in (backrow and centre) we lose two up and coming players who could fill these positions.

I just read my last post (above) and it is a moot point....both players are gone so what they may or may not be is irrelevant.

Rankin didn't play centre in the ESL. I checked the stats a week or so ago and found out he only started one game at centre. He played the vast majority of games at either 5/8 or Fullback, a few at 1/2 and some off the bench....I was actually hoping he had some experience at centre as that is obviously where we are light on...

Some people are putting a lot on a guy who was a plank warmer in the ESL. Okay his highlight reel looks impressive, but I still worry about how he will shape up at NRL level this time round.

Taylor said on the 9s video that Littlejohn and Drinkwater are competing for the 7 for round 1. I guess that shows the club sees Rankin as an outside back.
