Pearce isnt an origin player’s butthole. (You could also argue that the greatest Qld side ever assembled contributed to that).

However, as a club player i reckon hes up there with the best. Have him in the side and I believe we are instantly a top 8 team.

So much for Brown wanting to develop local talent.
Brown threw Lamb in the deep end, collected 3 wooden spoons in a row.
Now Brown is willing to let go of Lamb when he’s starting to show his potential?

Where you at Spot On?
Interesting to hear your thought on this one sis.
Uhhh Brown has only been here 2 seasons...exactly how has he collected 3 spoons in a row?

To Spot On and Woosh: If the two of you have got some issues with each other can you PM each other and sort it out? Or at least agree to disagree and move on rather than publicly going at it like that? It's becoming really tedious.

Sorry but I'd rather be reading people's opinions on the football team that we all support rather than reading through page after page of people having a dig at each other.

I'd rather tell you to f**k off if it bothers you so much but I do have respect for others so I'll refrain from saying that.

A bit of banter shouldn't hurt anyone though. Woosh is most welcome to PM if it is dragging everyone down. Nothing stopping him.

Just be sure to request the same of others if there's any banter between them.

For the record I have absolutely no issue with Woosh or any other forumite.

Unless Woosh turns up at my door......... that could make it real.

Hi Sis, do you want to sign Pearce or not?
The reported figure is 1.2 mill + but Ill have to double check with my broker.
Who’s going to do the kicking out Pearce and Watson?
What about Lamb? A wasted couples years throwing him into the deepend don’t you think?
1. Watson
5. Ponga
6. Lamb
7. Pearce

1. Ponga
4. Watson
6. Lamb
7. Pearce

If it's best for business they will get it done.

Sorry meant to write we collected 3 wooden spoons in row sis
The point is I didn’t sit through the 3 worst years of my life for Brown to be willing to let go of a player like Lamb.

Thoughts Spot On?
Sooo let me see if I can understand this. We’ve just had the three worst seasons in the clubs history and coming into the new season we potentially have an option between the following two players to lead the team in the most important position on the park:
Option A: a local junior who has played 24 games over the last few years and only really started to stamp his authority on games towards the end of last year. Would be leading the youngest spine in the history of the game around the park.
Option B: a 28 year old premiership winner who has played almost 250 first grade games. One of the stronger defensive halves who doesn’t go and hide himself out on the wing (looking at you thurston), he also has an excellent running and kicking game. Origin career aside, Pearce has been one of the top halfbacks in club footy for the last decade. I also read today that Pearce has the same footy mentor that both Johns boys had (some guy from up this way). Pearce also has the added bonus of knowing Guerra, SKD and Watson’s games inside out.

Out of those two options, you’re telling everyone here that you’re going with option A?

Pearce instantly takes our team to a whole other level. A player of his pedigree is not one you pass up. Also, considering the Dragons are paying $1 million for the Broncos bench hooker next year, 1.1 million for Pearce is smart money

To be honest I was half expecting that to be your response anyway, but posting back and forth at each other repeatedly without any actual content seems pointless.

Let me see if i got this right, manly are going to be lucky to scratch up 800,000 and we will go atleat 1million if not a bit more.over 600,000 or more over 3 years im guessing. If he comes across, how are we not as good as manly if he comes to us.i bet if he is in our side we will finish higher on the ladder then them.and the team will be built around him and not share it with cherry evans.i think our chances are good!

FYI this is the article I was referring to:

Mentor tips Mitchell Pearce to break 400-game mark after leaving Sydney Roosters

The mentor guiding Mitchell Pearce believes the in-demand halfback will only get better at his new club and has the potential of breaking through the magical 400-game barrier.

Pearce is in high demand, with his manager emailing all 16 NRL clubs at 6:32pm on Monday night to inform them he is officially available. Manly, having released pivot Blake Green to the Warriors, are the early favourites for his signature. However, the Sea Eagles will struggle to get close to the money on offer elsewhere without moving a player and still have the cloud of the salary cap investigation hanging over Brookvale. Newcastle and Cronulla are also major contenders, with Brisbane and Melbourne also linked to the released Rooster.

One man who is watching the situation with interest is Pearce's mentor Allan Bell. Bell was the foundation coaching director at Newcastle and provided specialist halves tuition to Andrew and Matthew Johns for over a decade. Matthew Johns has likened discussing halves play with Bell to "talking to John Lennon about music", with Pearce the only current star still seeking out his advice.

Bell believes Pearce's departure from Bondi Junction will result in him taking his game to a new level.

"Mitchell has got a lot of ability and I can see him getting better," Bell said. "He's at an age where it's exceptional what he's done. Ten years of first grade and he's just 28. The more responsibility he gets, I can see him improving again and going to a new level. And I'm sure that's what he wants to do himself.

"He's got a lot of pride in his performances and he's always tough. That's why the premiership-winning coaches in the game have recognised his worth.

"He's very fit and durable, I can honestly see him playing at least seven years beyond now. He'll get smarter with a good side, you keep learning all the time and he'll go on and improve.

"Barring some catastrophic injury, he would go on for at least another seven years. He's got almost 250 games now, he'll be getting very close to the 400 if he's in a team that makes the semis."

Pearce is on the move after deciding against playing second fiddle to Roosters signing Cooper Cronk. However, Bell believes there are aspects of Pearce's game that are superior to Cronk's and even that of Immortal-in-waiting Johnathan Thurston.

"They've both got good motors but his is even better," Bell said.

"His defence is better, he's got a low missed tackle count and his support play is better than any other half in the game.

"He will run off forwards fearlessly from offloads better than they do. Thurston is a ball player rather than running into the valley of death off a forward. Mitchell will take the line on like a forward near the tryline, Andrew Johns did a bit of that.

"He does that better than they do it. He's also a longer kicker than any of them and his high balls go higher. No doubt they have the wood on him in a few areas. He's not number two or three in everything, he's number one in quite a few fields."

All of Pearce's suitors will make a compelling pitch. The Knights will can offer him in excess of $1 million per season and have already signed three of his former Roosters teammates, Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Aidan Guerra and Connor Watson. A move to Cronulla or Manly would make them genuine premiership contenders and improve his own chances of collecting a grand final win.

"He could almost pick a club out of the hat, he can't make a bad decision," Bell said.

Our biggest sighing isn’t going to play wing.
Watson signed with us to play 6.
He was getting sick of getting moved around at the the Roosters.

Thoughts Spot On?
Just like Valentine Holmes will be moving back to the Wing, if its best for the team, they will do it, Hell Hayne Played wing for the 1st season of his Career.

It would help Ponga fill out a little more, and give him the option to move back after a season.

I could kinda understand sticking with Lamb over Cronk (if cronk were a realistic target), based on the fact that Cronk would be here for 1-2 years max. But Pearce still has a lot of years ahead of him. If we lose Lamb, then we lose him. By the time Pearce retires Jack Johns would possibly be ready to step up. If not then there’ll probably be someone else in the system, or we go to the market

For the record what level do people think Lamb will end up at in his career? Because those who are arguing that we shouldn't sign Pearce must think that Lamb will end up being better than Pearce in the long run.

Now in my opinion the only two halfbacks who can make a legitimate claim to be more consistent at NRL club footy than Pearce over the last 5 years are Thurston and Cronk. Hence the Roosters have signed Cronk and have let Pearce go. Although Lamb has shown some good signs it would still be a very bold prediction to say that he'll play 200+ games, play Origin, win a premiership etc. If he does then that's great but we would basically be going all in on a long term project who's ceiling maybe isn't even as high as Pearce. And if Brock does turn out to be that good there's also a very good chance that he'll get poached by one of the big clubs which wouldn't surprise me.

Lamb is a good prospect and has shown a lot of maturity so far in his short career but we're still banking on potential with him and there's absolutely no guarantee that he'll be the player that we need long term (for the record I hope he is) whereas Pearce is a known quantity and has the runs on the board already and is still young enough that he can contribute to a club for another 4-5 years at a high level.

My point is that surely Pearce is an immediate upgrade on Lamb and would probably put us in a genuine position to challenge for the top 8 in 2018 and possibly top 4 in 2019 depending on the development of other players and new signings etc. Why would we not take that opportunity if it presents itself?
