He was talking to Brisbane for months, it wasn't an overnight thing.

Ok I wasn't aware of that, from memory the Brisbane stuff surfaced fairly late in the media, but I can accept it I'm wrong about that.

Correction of that detail aside I still stand by my view that Jack Bird wasn't genuine in his interest to sign with us.

I think you are a fair bit wide of the mark mate

Thanks for your ambiguous contribution mate but I'm not sure what mark I'm so far wide of? My claim that he wasn't genuinely keen to come here? Or am I wide of the mark about how long he was talking to Brisbane for? Or is there another detail that I haven't addressed here?

There's obviously a bunch of stuff that gets reported in the media with a high profile player like that, i.e. How much he was offered, why he wants to sign for a particular club, what are his motivations, who is influencing him etc. and in truth only Jack Bird knows the answers to all those questions.

But here is one concrete fact that we all know... He didn't sign with us.

So it's hard for me to believe that we were any more than plan B because he ended up at the glamour club at the end of the day.

Bird didn't have the balls to sign here at the time regardless of the dough.

Understandable with where we were at I suppose but he talked himself up as a pure footballer not afraid of a challenge.

It would seem he didn't want to back himself to be the man here and Bennett whispered those sweet little nothings into his ear and that was simply enough.

Ahh, those beautiful thoroughbreds in Brissy..... very alluring.

You keep fighting the good fight Knightside.

Nathan brown quotes that mitchell pearce is not motivated by money! YOU THINK HE SAID THIS TO PAINT PEARCE IN A GOOD LIGHT.my point being that he would of told him what we would pay for his services and he does not want a negative press spin on him just going for the big pay day.lets be honest we would all jump ship for that much extra coin.im sure other reasons to come into play like ex player mates, less pressure on him.im wondering and hoping that what brown is playing at with his cards close to his chest.

That's how I read it as well. Not necessarily that we fancied our chances, but I feel Brown is laying the groundwork so that if he does come here, Pearce isn't painted as a mercenary and that we offer more than just cash.

If Pearce somehow pulls out of the Manly deal due to Newcastle making him the highest paid player (annual salary) in RL history I sincerely hope he wins the Dally M and leads us to a premiership.

A pay packet that large will mean enormous pressure on him regardless of the media bs to the contrary.

It will be relentless criticism of him if things don't work.

For him to pull out of the manly deal would require a deal to be on the table. According to his manager, there are no deals or offers from any club yet
