How many Australian players would make a world XI right now. I'd say zero with Nathan Lyon the closest behind Yasir Shah and Ashwin.

I don't mind the BBL as such, but it doesn't need to go as long as it does. Nor does shield cricket need to go on a 3 month hiatus during a test series for it.
What's a guy like Renshaw who needs FC cricket doing while the BBL is on? Not much, a bit of club cricket. Ridiculous.

Feel a bit for Finch. He hasnt selected himself and he's just not good enough.

Finch vs Test Cricket is equivalent of a jobber facing Mike Tyson in his prime. Sure he has a punchers chance of pulling off a miracle, but he will always be horrifically mismatched

"Busted Arse" Douglas??

Maybe Second XI / Futures League / whatever it's called these days should run in parallel. But what would be the standard though?

I've got no issue with the BBL, it gets kids to cricket which is a good thing. But kids Don't know shit from clay, the quality of play in the big bash is woeful and the international players like Rashid and Buttler stand out like dogs balls against some of the Australian nuffies playing.

But it is those nuffies who are selected for Australia based on what they do in the big bash, which for a batsmen is hit out at everything, a paceman variations in pace and luck and for spinners firing them in at the pads.

Interesting that whilst all the Aussie players and coaches take their fistful of Rupees to play IPL, and divulge all the trade secrets, they don't do it here. Nor do Indians play in the BBL to cross pollinate with our up and comers.

It's happened in all sports really. The coaches in so many Aussie sports where we used to dominate are now coaching overseas for the big $$$$$ and winning golds and comps there.

Apparently Indian players who play in the IPL are not allowed to play in any other T20 leagues around the world. Also India don't have any internationals on when the IPL is on, never have.

Something like that could be a start at least. A few shield players who aren't in BBL could play. Sure you'd have a few players not really up to FC standard, but still probably a step up from Club cricket.
Cut 3 weeks off BBL to extend shield cricket by another 2 rounds at least. BBL could play a few more double headers.

We a regressing in all forms of cricket, so maintaining the status quo isn't working.
Tim Paine and Sean Marsh aren't far off retirement, so Warney's nightmare of Short opening the batting and failing as badly is Finch is possibly a reality.

Kind of scary that Matt Wade is the top run scorer in shield cricket though as it currently stands. Bloody hell.

Cummins, Hazelwood and Lyon would all be in the conversation for a World XI

Pick Wade for Finch bat him at 5.

I would go one of the Blues openers who have scored two hundreds this season for M Marsh
